From nicholas at nicholaspyers.com Fri Jul 2 04:48:42 2004 From: nicholas at nicholaspyers.com (Nicholas Pyers) Date: Fri Jul 2 04:56:45 2004 Subject: [ACNN-Mac] About the zonian.net.au mailing memberships reminder email Message-ID: Yesterday, all subscribers to the various ACNN and Zonian-Jokes mailing lists would have received a message similar to the one below. There is no need for alarm nor concern about you personal email security. A few weeks ago, zonian.net.au relocated to a new server at our list provider (pair.com) so that we could take advantage of new options available in the latest version of mailman, the software used to manage the ACNN and Zonian-Jokes lists, in particular the anti-SPAM options. On the previous server, we had to manually process and discard over 500 SPAM messages a day - the new server handles this automatically. In the change over, one preference that was previously turned off was turned back on. This was the "Send monthly password reminders?"option. When this option is turned on, it sends a "personalised" email to all subscribers on the list reminding them of the email address(s) used to subscribe to the list and the password used to protect your personal options on the List Server. We have now corrected the setting so that this option is once again set to OFF, so you shouldn't receive this sort of message again. However, if you would to continue to receive these reminders on the 1st of each month, you can set that up for your account quite easily and considering you have all received your password, this is a timely opportunity for all subscribers to login and update any details you like. To do this, follow the following simple steps - the entire process takes less than five minutes; - Visit http://www.zonian.net.au/lists - Click on the appropriate "more >>" link for the mailing list you are subscribed to - A new window will open. Scroll down to almost the bottom of this page, where it has a heading of "List Name Subscribers" - Enter your email address in to the field and click on the "Unsubscribe or edit options" button - The window will change and prompt you for your password (which was supplied in the email you you got yesterday). Enter your password and click the "Log in" button. You'll now have the opportunity to change the email address that receive the ACNN and/or Zonian-Jokes messages, you can add your name (which is optional, but it would be nice to know who you are :) and a ton of other personal preferences. If you really don't want to receive future postings from the ACNN or Zonian-Jokes lists, then you can also unsubscribe from here as well. If you are subscribed to more than one ACNN or Zonian mailing list, you should be able to tick the various "apply globally" boxes under some of the options, and this should change that preference for all the lists you are subscribed to. We apologise for any confusion and inconvenience the zonian.net.au lists password reminder email may have caused. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the zonian.net.au list manager, Nicholas Pyers, by emailing nkp@zonian.net.au. >Date: Thu, 01 Jul 2004 05:03:15 -0400 >X-BeenThere: mailman@six.pairlist.net >X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.3 >List-Id: >Sender: mailman-bounces@six.pairlist.net > >This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your ausom.net.au >mailing list memberships. I used it back then and it worked like a treat. Now after relocating the machine to a new room, I need to re-apply this but can't find the issue of Australian Macworld that contained it. Does anyone have it handy? Thanks in Advance Nicholas -- Nicholas Pyers (nicholas@nicholaspyers.com) "Heaven on Earth?" "No, Earth on Earth. The Just Earth!"
