The Apple Users Society of Melbourne, is Australia's leading Apple
Macintosh User Group and this AUSOM-Announcement is a brief summary
of the various meetings we conduct during the month and in the

MEETINGS DAY - Saturday, November 3, 2007
Members and visitors attend Box Hill Institute, Building 8 Elgar
Campus on the corner of Whitehorse and Elgar Roads (Melway 47B9) on
the first Saturday of each month (except January) between 9.30am and
5.00pm for a wide variety of meetings on the use of the Apple
Macintosh computer in digital photography, iPods, home movies,
genealogy, finance, databases, the Internet, Excel, Word, networking
and many other topics. The location is convenient to tram and train
and there is ample parking. Lunch may be purchased on site and
vendors sell small computer items such as CDs, DVDs, ink jet
cartridges, cables etc. We have a monthly raffle of valuable prizes
such as iWork software, the iPod shuffle etc.

MAIN PRESENTATION - Saturday, November 3, 2007

TOPIC: Apple's Situation & Future
Garry Barker, the Mac Man from The Age newspaper, will talk about
Apple's present situation and its possible future.

This is part of Meetings Day at the Box Hill Institute (see above)
and will commence in Rooms 213-215 in Building 8 at 1pm.

MULTIMEDIA SIG - Tuesday, November 13, 2007
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Balwyn Baptist Church
(cnr Whitehorse Road and Parring Rd Melway 46F8) from 7.30pm to 10pm.

TOPIC: Mac OS X Leopard
Now that Leopard has been released we'll briefly cover some of the 300
+ new features included in this new release of the Mac OS.

TOPIC: iChat in Leopard
Nicholas Pyers & Perry Liebe will explore the many new features in
iChat - in particular iChat Theatre; Back Drops; and Photo Booth
Effects, but we'll also cover Invisibility Mode; Tabbed Chats,
Multiple Logins and Animated Buddy Icons.

TOPIC: Video for your iPod
With the new iPod Nano and iPod touch now also sporting video
capabilities, we'll cover some of the options on how to get video on
your video capable iPod and then other ways you can use that video.

RETIREES AND OTHERS SIG - Wednesday, November 14, 2007
Meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Balwyn Baptist Church
(cnr Whitehorse Road and Parring Rd Melway 46F8) from 10am to 12noon.

TOPIC: Making Cards with Pages
Steve Cooper will demonstrate how easy it is to use Apple's 'new'
word processing and page layout application to make attractive cards
from your photos or other graphics.


AUSOM COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT MEETINGS
The AUSOM Committee of Management (CoM) usually meets on the
Wednesday night two weeks before the next Main Meeting (this is
usually, but not always the the 2nd Wednesday of each month) at 247
Flinders Lane Melbourne Victoria Australia.

If you'd like to submit information for the Committee's
consideration, please email com at ausom.net.au or write to; AUSOM
Committee, 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne 3000. If the submission is
received by the Monday evening prior to the Committee Meeting, it can
be placed on the agenda for consideration at that next meeting,
otherwise it may be held over until the meeting.
