Monthly meeting - Saturday, 3 May 2008
Main presentation - Disk Production
Nicholas Pyers will perform a live demonstration of the Bravo Disc
Publisher unit recently purchased by AUSOM for producing the Disc of
the Month titles.
He'll explain how he comes up with the concept behind the titles and
their content; then how he designs and creates the labels and
marketing material. Finally, Nicholas will will demonstrate how he
uses the Bravo Disc Publisher to physically burn and print the final
disc ready for sale.
All the techniques Nicholas will demonstrate and explain can be used
to create a single unique disc or hundreds of identical discs.
Members and visitors attend Swinburne Univeristy, Prahran Campus
(High Street, Prahran) on the first Saturday of each month (except
January) between 9.30am and 5.00pm for a wide variety of meetings on
the use of the Apple Macintosh computer in digital photography,
iPods, home movies, genealogy, finance, databases, the Internet,
Excel, Word, networking and many other topics. The location is
convenient to tram and train and there is ample parking. Lunch may be
purchased on site and vendors sell small computer items such as CDs,
DVDs, ink jet cartridges, cables etc. We have a monthly raffle of
valuable prizes such as iWork software, the iPod shuffle etc.

1: DES - Selecting the Correct Paper Stock & Inks
Daniela Barth from DES Pty Ltd will talk about how to select the
correct paper stock and inks for each job and why this is important
to anyone who prints any material.
2: Designwyse - Storage & Backups
We all think we have sufficient backups ... but we probably don't!
Brendon Field from Designwyse will speak from first hand experience
about the importance of proper backup procedures. After the massive
fire that destroyed Designwyse's premises last year, they learnt some
valuable and hard lessons, which he'll share with us.
The Macintosh Multimedia Group [3MG] is a joint venture between AUSOM
Inc and iMug. It meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the
Balwyn Baptist Church (cnr Whitehorse and Parring Roads, Melway 46
F8) from 7.00pm to 10pm (doors open at 7pm).

Retirees & Others SIG - Wednesday, 14 May 2008
1. Audrey Shoobridge - photographer. Audrey uses many Photoshop
techniques to manipulate her photographs and will show her work
after a brief description of the techniques used.
2. Pat Tasker - ‘Bridge’ (the useful Apple app.) will be
discussed and then the app. ‘PhotoTo Movie’ or How To Fake Owning
A Movie Camera.
This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Balwyn
Baptist Church (cnr Whitehorse and Parring Roads, Melway 46 F8) from
10am to 12noon.

AUSOM Committee of Management Meetings
The AUSOM Committee of Management (CoM) usually meets on the
Wednesday night two weeks before the next Main Meeting (this is
usually, but not always the the second Wednesday of each month) at
247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
If you'd like to submit information for the Committee's
consideration, please email com at ausom.net.au or write to AUSOM
Committee, 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne 3000. If the submission is
received by the Monday evening prior to the Committee Meeting, it can
be placed on the agenda for consideration at that next meeting,
otherwise it may be held over until the meeting.

audio files; browse the internet; open and convert graphics and
images; open and manipulate text and encode and watch video.

so you can play the Macintosh versions of the “two most used Windows
applications”☺

NOTE: AUSOM has relocated in 2008
Monthly Meeting days have relocated to Swinburne University Prahran
Campus as of the February meeting (there were no AUSOM meetings held
in January).
The Campus is located quite close to the intersection of High St and
Chapel St, Prahran and easily accessible by various forms of public
transport (tram stop right out the front, a train station only a few
minutes walk away) and there are plenty of options for driving a car
