AUSOM Announcements - December 2008
Monthly meeting - Saturday, 6 December 2008
Main presentation - Annual digital video film festival
Hosted by Roger Threlfall, Digital Video SIG Leader, this annual
festival showcases the fine work done by members of the group.
A highlight of the festival will be a 20 minute film 'The Yarra -
Ribbon of life'. This is a collaborative effort by six of the SIG
members filming the Yarra from the Upper Yarra dam to its mouth. It
will show as a ribbon of life the water flow, flora and fauna,
bridges, and leisure and recreation activities along its length.
A collection of short films will also be shown. These films will be
the best of the Bring & Shows of 2008 and some new films which were
produced just for the Film Festival.
Members and visitors attend Swinburne Univeristy, Prahran Campus (High
Street, Prahran) on the first Saturday of each month (except January).
The meeting runs between 9.30am and 5.00pm. Special interest group
meetings cover using Apple Macs in digital photography, iPods, home
movies, genealogy, finance, databases, the Internet, Excel, Word,
networking and many other topics. The location is convenient to tram
and train and there is ample parking. Lunch may be purchased on site.
We have a monthly raffle of valuable prizes including software and
hardware.

about the new 'Micro Four Thirds' cameras together with a range of new

AUSOM News December 2008 - Correction
Members will be receiving the December edition of AUSOM News this
week. Unfortunately Bruce's Blurb (pp. 31-33) is in fact an older
article that applied to software about 12 months ago. The correct
article will be published in the February edition of AUSOM News.
For those of you who subscribe to FirstClass, Bruce has posted his
correct article in full in the General Conference.
Discs of the month - Artist's palette
A collection of tools for budding and professional artists, graphic
designers and photographers. There are 32 applications and utilities
including Pixelmator (billed by some as Photoshop for the rest of us),
image viewing and management, painting packages, art text, image
editing, drawing and poster creation. A veritable treasure trove of
apps to support your creative expression.
