The Apple Users Society of Melbourne, is Australia's leading Apple  
Macintosh User Group and this AUSOM-Announcement is a brief summary  
of the various meetings we conduct during the month and in the

MEETINGS DAY - Saturday, March 1, 2008
Members and visitors attend Swinburne Univeristy, Prahran Campus  
(High Street, Prahran) on the first Saturday of each month (except  
January) between 9.30am and 5.00pm for a wide variety of meetings on  
the use of the Apple Macintosh computer in digital photography,  
iPods, home movies, genealogy, finance, databases, the Internet,  
Excel, Word,  networking and many other topics. The location is  
convenient to tram and train and there is ample parking. Lunch may be  
purchased on site and vendors sell small computer items such as CDs,  
DVDs, ink jet cartridges, cables etc. We have a monthly raffle of  
valuable prizes such as iWork software, the iPod shuffle etc.

MAIN PRESENTATION - Saturday, February 2, 200

TOPIC: How to Keep Your Kids Safe in a Globally Connected World
Anthony Caruana, CEO of Gestalt Communications, will tell us how to  
protect your kids and grandchildren from the very worst of the  
Internet. There are many insidious and dangerous things to look out  
for. Anthony will look at some of the methods used by online  
predators, bullies and other sharks and offer some advice on how to  
safely use the web and yet not eliminate all spontaneity for our  
children and grandchildren. Anthony has a great deal of experience in  
this area and so we should expect some surprises in this session.

MULTIMEDIA SIG - Tuesday, March 11, 2008
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Balwyn Baptist Church  
(cnr Whitehorse Road and Parring Rd  Melway 46F8) from 7.00pm to  
10pm. (Doors open at 7pm)

Introduction to Building Successful Websites
Stephen Welker from Commart is a local web site builder with many  
years of solid practical experience and he'll provide his experiences  
in building a successful web site and creating an effective and  
visible presence on the web. He will highlight some issues for  
graphic artists and small businesses that are commonly encountered.

iPhoto Print Services
Finally the ability to order photo books, calendars, cards and prints  
is available here in Australia, so the other session will show how to  
create these stunning and unforgettable gifts and keepsakes in iPhoto  
7 and then order them.

RETIREES AND OTHERS SIG - Wednesday, February 12  2008
Meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Balwyn Baptist Church  
(cnr Whitehorse Road and Parring Rd  Melway 46F8) from 10am to 12noon.

TOPIC:  Digital Photography Miscellany
Steve Cooper will demonstrate a number of digital photo processes and  
techniques in response to questions posed by members.

AUSOM COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT MEETINGS
The AUSOM Committee of Management (CoM) usually meets on the  
Wednesday night two weeks before the next Main Meeting (this is  
usually, but not always the the 2nd Wednesday of each month) at 247  
Flinders Lane Melbourne Victoria Australia.

If you'd like to submit information for the Committee's  
consideration, please email com at ausom.net.au or write to; AUSOM  
Committee, 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne 3000.  If the submission is  
received by the Monday evening prior to the Committee Meeting, it can  
be placed on the agenda for consideration at that next meeting,  
otherwise it may be held over until the meeting.

DISC OF THE MONTH:
AUSOM regularly produces a Disc of the Month that goes on sale on the  
First Saturday of each month at our Main Meeting.

This month's title is "Free Time Games"

A great selection of arcade, card, strategy, role playing and  
simulation games suitable for the entire family, contained on a  
single CD.
Many games allow you to play solo or against opponents – locally or  
across the internet.

There are no further fees to pay for these fully functional and

AUSOM HAS RELOCATED IN 2008
The Main Meeting Days have relocating to Swinburne University,  
Prahran Campus as of the February meeting (there were no AUSOM  
meetings held in January).

The Campus is located quite close to the intersection of High St and  
Chapel St, Prahran and easily accessible by various forms of Public  
Transport (tram stop right out the front, a train station only a few  
minutes walk away) and there are plenty of options for driving a car  
and parking close by.

All our regular Special Interest Groups and other activities will  
continue as per normal and we hope to see you our new home.
