The Apple Users Society of Melbourne, is Australia's leading Apple  
Macintosh User Group and this AUSOM-Announcement is a brief summary  
of the various meetings we conduct during the month and in the

MEETINGS DAY - Saturday, February 2, 2008
Members and visitors attend Swinburne Univeristy, Prahran Campus  
(High Street, Prahran) on the first Saturday of each month (except  
January) between 9.30am and 5.00pm for a wide variety of meetings on  
the use of the Apple Macintosh computer in digital photography,  
iPods, home movies, genealogy, finance, databases, the Internet,  
Excel, Word,  networking and many other topics. The location is  
convenient to tram and train and there is ample parking. Lunch may be  
purchased on site and vendors sell small computer items such as CDs,  
DVDs, ink jet cartridges, cables etc. We have a monthly raffle of  
valuable prizes such as iWork software, the iPod shuffle etc.

TOPIC: APPLE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Joe Cox, System Engineer from Apple Australia will present a double  
length feature with all the latest news from the Apple, including the  
announcements from the recent Macworld Expo.

This is part of Meetings Day at the Swinburne Prahran (see above) and  
will commence in Lecture Theatre, Second Floor in Building PA at 1pm.


TOPIC: Microsoft OpenXML
Sarah Bond from Microsoft Australia will discuss Open XML and learn  
how Office 2008 for Macintosh continues the tradition of cooperation  
between Apple and Microsoft.

This is also part of the Meetings Day and commences at 3pm

MULTIMEDIA SIG - Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Balwyn Baptist Church  
(cnr Whitehorse Road and Parring Rd  Melway 46F8) from 7.30pm to  
10pm. (Doors open at 7pm)

RETIREES AND OTHERS SIG - Wednesday, February 13,  2008
Meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Balwyn Baptist Church

AUSOM COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT MEETINGS
The AUSOM Committee of Management (CoM) usually meets on the  
Wednesday night two weeks before the next Main Meeting (this is  
usually, but not always the the 2nd Wednesday of each month) at 247  
Flinders Lane Melbourne Victoria Australia.

If you'd like to submit information for the Committee's  
consideration, please email com at ausom.net.au or write to; AUSOM  
Committee, 247 Flinders Lane, Melbourne 3000.  If the submission is  
received by the Monday evening prior to the Committee Meeting, it can  
be placed on the agenda for consideration at that next meeting,  
otherwise it may be held over until the meeting.

AUSOM HAS RELOCATED IN 2008
The Main Meeting Days have relocating to Swinburne University,  
Prahran Campus as of the February meeting (there were no AUSOM  
meetings held in January).

The Campus is located quite close to the intersection of High St and  
Chapel St, Prahran and easily accessible by various forms of Public  
Transport (tram stop right out the front, a train station only a few  
minutes walk away) and there are plenty of options for driving a car  
and parking close by.

All our regular Special Interest Groups and other activities will  
continue as per normal and we hope to see you our new home.
