AUSOM Announcements - July 2008

Monthly meeting - Saturday, 5 July 2008

Main presentation - Talking iPhone from WWDC
Joe Cox, Apple Australia

Apple Systems Engineer, Joe Cox, will talk about outcomes from Apple's  
recent WorldWide Developers' Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco. He  
will cover new products coming out of the WWDC, focussing on the about- 
to-be-released Australian iPhone. We may also hear about the new  
Australian Apple Stores as well. Joe will be addressing the meeting  
for two hours from 1.00pm and is looking forward to fielding a host of  
questions from the floor during that time.

Members and visitors attend Swinburne Univeristy, Prahran Campus (High  
Street, Prahran) on the first Saturday of each month (except January).  
The meeting runs between 9.30am and 5.00pm. Special interest group  
meetings cover the use of the Apple Macintosh computer in digital  
photography, iPods, home movies, genealogy, finance, databases, the  
Internet, Excel, Word,  networking and many other topics. The location  
is convenient to tram and train and there is ample parking. Lunch may  
be purchased on site and vendors sell small computer items such as  
CDs, DVDs, ink jet cartridges, cables, etc. We have a monthly raffle  
of valuable prizes such as iWork software, the iPod shuffle etc.

Multimedia SIG - Tuesday, 8 July 2008
A variety of topics will be discussed:
- The Apple Store Sydney Grand Opening - An insight by Perry Liebe,  
who camped over night to be amongst the first to enter.
- iTunes Store - TV shows have arrived in the Australian iTunes Store  
and we'll highlight various features to be found in the iTunes Store
- iPhone - With just days to go before the launch of the iPhone, we'll  
discuss why people may want one
- Adobe Photoshop Elements - time permitting, we'll present Terry  
White's demonstration on Adobe Photoshop Elements 6

The Macintosh Multimedia Group [3MG] is a joint venture between AUSOM  
Inc and iMug. It meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the  
Balwyn Baptist Church (cnr Whitehorse and Parring Roads,  Melway 46  
F8) from 7.00pm to 10pm (doors open at 7pm).

This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Balwyn

AUSOM Committee of Management Meetings
The AUSOM Committee of Management (CoM) usually meets on the Wednesday  
night two weeks before the next Main Meeting (this is usually, but not  
always the the second Wednesday of each month) at 247 Flinders Lane,  
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

If you'd like to submit information for the Committee's consideration,  
please email com at ausom.net.au or write to AUSOM Committee, 247  
Flinders Lane, Melbourne 3000.  If the submission is received by the  
Monday evening prior to the Committee Meeting, it can be placed on the  
agenda for consideration at that next meeting, otherwise it may be  
held over until the meeting.

Disc of the month - Arcade Mania Volume 01
The July 2008 Disc of the Month is a collection of over 50 classic,  
retro and modern Arcade Games that will provide hours of fun for all  
ages.

AUSOM regularly produces a Disc of the Month that goes on sale on the  
first Saturday of each month at our Monthly Meeting. It can be  
purchased a the Saturday meeting, by contacting the AUSOM Office on

NOTE: AUSOM has relocated in 2008
Monthly Meeting days have relocated to Swinburne University Prahran  
Campus as of the February meeting (there were no AUSOM meetings held  
in January).

The Campus is located quite close to the intersection of High St and  
Chapel St, Prahran and easily accessible by various forms of public  
transport (tram stop right out the front, a train station only a few  
minutes walk away) and there are plenty of options for driving a car
