[Digital_Divide] Nat. Ed. Technology Plan webcast

You are invited to an important policy event and live Webcast, Friday, 
January 7, 2005, at 3pm EST! At that time, Secretary of Education Rod 
Paige will be releasing to Congress the National Education Technology 
Plan 2004, Toward a New Golden Age in American Education: How the 
Internet, the Law, and Today’s Students Are Revolutionizing 
Expectations. 

The Plan establishes a national vision and strategy that supports the 
effective use of technology to improve student academic achievement and 
prepare them for the 21st Century. 

Many of you have contributed to this strategic vision through feedback 
sessions at NECC, through Speak-Up days for students and teachers, and 
other venues. ISTE too has contributed through its groundbreaking work 
in educational technology standards and leadership training. 

WHAT

Formal release to Congress of the new National Education Technology 
Plan plus panel discussion with
	• 	Susan Patrick, Director, Office of Educational Technology
	• 	Myrtle Reed, Assistant Superintendent, St. Louis Public Schools
	• 	Mark Edwards, Dean,  College of Education, University of Northern 
Alabama

WHERE

The event will be held at the US Department of Education’s Barnard 
Auditorium, 1st Floor,  400 Maryland Avenue, SW in Washington, DC. If 
attending in person, please RSVP to Bonny Long at  bonny.long at ed.gov.

If you can’t attend in person, please go to www.KidzOnline.org/edtech 
for the live Webcast.

WHEN

January 7, 2005 at 3pm Eastern, 12 noon Pacific.

Also beginning January 7, the full text of the National Education 
Technology Plan will be available at www.NationalEdTechPlan.org.
