I am Scott Lawrence - I'm running the new CCPOPS web site at http://ccpops.org/ and have set up this list to serve as a way to reach the CCPOPS membership as a whole with news and information of general interest to the members. It is not really intended to be a list for holding extended discussions of topics that are not of interest to the entire membership - we can set up other lists for those whenever they will be useful. Please be careful when replying to list messages - check the To and CC addresses on your message and make sure that it is going to the list only if it is appropriate for everyone to see. If you prefer to be subscribed at some other address, or not subscribed at all, the subscription notice has a link for the page that let's you make those changes yourself, or feel free to contact me for help. We don't yet have all CCPOPS members subscribed, but we're working on it. I have altered my previous message and modified it for distribution to just CC-POPS. Feel free to adapt as necessary. Note that the flyer looks a little different than the one sent before, which was a Microsoft Word document, which somehow was in three columns across a landscape page. Richard Keleher _____________________________ Dear fellow CC-POPS member: How many people in Concord on fixed income are land rich? Would a tax deferral address even 20% of the people who generally go against fixing fire stations and streets and educating kids. Is anyone in CC-POPS interested in taking on this project? It is something that we need to do if we are going to be able to proceed with projects that we need in Concord. A program like this would enable us to move forward without having to fear we are forcing people to leave Concord. I believe that even though the taxes in the tax deferral program must eventually be paid they will more than be made up for by the increase in property value that occurs because we have done the right things by providing schools and conserving the environment and taking care of our town. I am attaching the file I sent to Betsy (see her email below). It is an information flyer issued by the Town Clerk's office, whose format is altered to be in .html. Richard Keleher ______________________________ -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Tax Deferral Date: Tue, 27 Feb 2001 14:10:39 EST From: Bilodeau2@aol.com To: rkeleher@tiac.net Richard: I agree that the amount is too low. I also think the option of having a local fund to give the rest of the curcuit breaker money to those in need is necessary. It would work by income, and taxes should not exceed 10% of income. The state will give the first $375 maximum, and perhaps this town fund could give the rest. The effect would be to keep those elderly or needy people in their homes if they want to be there. I've asked a couple of people to help me find a group to get this going. Let me know if you know anyone interested. Betsy PS meeting on Willard led to Jim Terry agreeing to ask SBAB if a new school on Willard site could be approved, and asking Joel Seely to approximate cost difference. (Neither seemed too happy about it, so I'm not sure of the next step) One problem is that Alcott has about $3M not at all reimbursable, so Willard would too if we got a new building. Is this widely known?? Also, Joel says the lighting is the same in all there elementary schools. Is that your understanding? Talk to you soon. I > have altered my previous message and modified it for distribution to > just CC-POPS. Feel free to adapt as necessary Richard had posted this a few days ago, also copying several other addresses. As one of the mechanisms to reduce junk mail on the list, copying more than a few non-list addresses will trigger the posting being sent to me instead of the list. Normally I will just approve the post and let it go, but in this case Richard had attached the information from Betsy in the form of an attached Word document. Because that isn't a universally readable form, I suggested that he save it as HTML before reposting it. Postings to the list won't normally go to me for approval (Richards second post went to you all directly) - only if they trigger one of the anti-spam rules (over a maximum size, or from an address that is not subscribed to the list are the other major ones). The goal of these is to help make this a useful group that doesn't add to the amount of junk in our mailboxes, but they will occasionally get in the way - since all the triggers go to me, I'll keep an eye on whether they need to be made more permissive. Feel free to let me know if you have an opinion, either privately or on the list. Message-ID: <3AAEE08A.FB2B5B47@earthlink.net> WOW! What an amazing run! Thanks to everyone for a record-breaking, beautiful morning, yee-haw, OK! event! (Aren't there a lot of great, dumb expressions in this musical?) The five shows surpassed all expectations for excitement, energy, quality and - yes - profit. The comments I've heard/received from people have been incredible - everyone has commented on the energy and anticipation they felt when they walked in the front door and encountered all those east coast cowpokes selling their wares. The experience continued through the lobby, to the house management and the superb program. The production itself was, of course, "nothing less than spectacular" - I've had MANY comments about the professional level of performance by cast, crew and pit. Kudos to the directors, of course, and to the tireless production people and "Food Moms" backstage. Departing guests on the first week-end were overheard saying "No wonder Mary says she's coming twice - where can I get a ticket for next week-end?" And they must have come, because we turned people away on Saturday and Sunday! Special thanks to Ellen Quackenbush, Kathy Kennedy and Cathy Smith et al for the "Elaine reception". I know that Miss DiCicco REALLY enjoyed herself and the invited guests were effusive in their praise for a great idea beautifully executed. Ellen even succeeded in getting the Journal's attention - reporter and photographer! If anyone missed the kids' piece at curtain calls - putting Elaine up on the surrey and singing to her - it's on video and should definitely be seen! Of course, the kids made it all happen. I heard MANY people comment that they couldn't believe they were at a High School production. Mr. Brown sets the bar higher and higher and those kids keep leaping over it! So, let's keep having way too much fun. CC-POPS meeting Wednesday night at 7:00 in the chorus room. Come find out what's next! This list, ccpops-announce@ccpops.org is now set up to be essentially a one-way announcement list - we'll try to keep it very low traffic, but with high-interest content. Posting will be limited to CCPOPS board members and activity coordinators. If you're getting this message, you're on this list (all messages will have [ccpops] in the Subject line). A second list has been created for open discussion of anything of interest to CCPOPS members (that is in some way related to our mission - no discussion of town garbage pickup, please :-). You'll be able to distinguish messages on this list by the [ccpops-discuss] in the Subject line. You are not automatically subscribed to the ccpops-discuss list - you can join by either: - going to http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/ccpops-discuss and filling in the subscription form -or- - sending a piece of email to ccpops-request@ccpops.org with just the word 'subscribe' in the message. Saturday, March 17, 2001 8:00 PM (or after the faculty show if you're going) until 10:00 AM Sunday (optional) at the home of Tom Wilson and Fran Grigsby, parents of John Wilson 199 Independence Road, Concord (Up the hill behind Louisa May's) phone : 369-1765 Parents are welcome to visit (briefly!) to mingle with other parents in the living room (the kids take over the rest of the house), to look at photos of the show and place orders for photos, videos, audio CD's and headshots, if desired. ALL attendees are strongly urged to car pool. Because of the snow situation, parking along Independence is at a premium. Please drop-off students when possible. Parking is allowed at the lot at Orchard House, but it's a stiff walk up the hill! Students driving their own cars are requested to bring as many other students as possible. Bonus this year - all food and drink will be provided at no charge to the kids! Because so many families generously donated food and drink to the "Feed the Kids" program during rehearsals, we have a surplus of drinks and paper goods and enough money left to buy evening snacks and morning donuts and juice for the party. Thanks to everyone for such amazing support of these great kids. For Freshmen and New families... you've heard by now that this is an overnight party and you're trying hard to be calm. Calm is good. Advice from the old-timers: Yes, it is an overnight party, but about half of the 100+ kids who attend will be picked-up, some as early as 11:00 PM and some as late as 2:00 AM. Contrary to what your child is telling you, he/she will NOT be the only one to go home if that is your choice. If your child does stay overnight, there will be vigilant adult chaperoning through the night. There also are so many kids in the house that none of them ever gets to be alone! House rules strictly forbid ANY alcohol or controlled substances. If a child smokes cigarettes (which is between you and your child) they may do so only outside the house. The best news for new families is that your child has now aligned him/herself with a truly amazing group of kids who have made a commitment to enjoy themselves without benefit of controlled substances. They truly care for and about each other and their strongest desire is to have lots of uninterrupted time together and to celebrate their hard work and huge success. Count your blessings and welcome aboard. If you have any questions before the party or need to touch base during the event, feel free to call Tom and Fran at 369-1765. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... One extra thing - put the student's NAME on their clothing, since everyone's will be identical! Chorus Outfits For those students who do not yet have an outfit- they are ordered and are supposed to show up by Mon. 4/3 Call Sue McHugh @ 371-0118 with questions about outfits ? ?? After measurings, fittings, backorders, re-orders, a general state of confusion, and an unfortunate seamstress' bout of arthritis, it looks likely that all the students WILL have a black dress or tux for the performance. ? ?? One caveat in this is that almost all the dresses and pants need to be shortened between now and April 6!? For girls' parents, you may find that the dress bodice needs altering (although for this concert you may wish to just do a little pinning, tucking, or taping if that will work).? We know duct tape works really well on pant hems, and probably could temporarily hold up dress hems as well! ? ?? If you are handy at sewing, great!? If not, you will need to bring the outfit to a tailor as soon as possible. ? ?? If this won't work, we will have seamstresses at the high school next Monday (4/2) from 7:00-9:00 pm in Room A6, and Tuesday (4/3) from 3:00-5:30.? They will do pants or dress hems for $10, and dress alterations for $15.? BRING THE OUTFIT, YOUR STUDENT WITH CORRECT (BLACK) SHOES, AND CASH!? Measurements will be done and the outfits returned by April 6.? If there is anyone out there who is capable and could help out with hemming/tailoring/ironing, please call me! On the Friday afternoon of the concert, from 2:00-4:00 we will have the ironing board(s) set up for last-minute touch-ups. "The Outfits" has been a hectic but rewarding experience, and we will all be proud to hear and see these kids perform next Friday!? If you haven't heard them, plan to go to the concert at Wellesley - wait until you hear "Saul" - wow! You should all find (finally, mea culpa) a mid-summer "NOISE" in your mailboxes today or tomorrow. Please note that the date of BROADWAY CABARET HAS BEEN CHANGED BACK TO OCTOBER 20TH. If you were at the May or June meetings, you know that we had moved it back to October 13th when we moved "Time To Shine" back from Nov 10th to the 3rd. But when Mr. Brown and I started reviewing the schedule from the September end, it became apparent that we need that extra week for many reasons. This schedule will allow the kids an extra week to rehearse, keeps us from having a Monday holiday in tech week, keeps the performance off the SAT I & II date (though it's now on the PSAT date - sorry Juniors), lines-up the date with the Drama Club Bake Sale Oct 22-26 (sell those left-overs, kids!), and generally gives everyone involved a bit more breathing space. I'm confident that everyone will enthusiastically pitch-in on both Cabaret and TTS preparations - you'll have October 27th to catch your breath in between! Thanks, as always for your support. Karen PS - I can report that MANY committees and individuals are devoting big chunks of summer time to CC-POPS preparation and we're going to be in amazing shape to kick-off the year at our first meeting on Wednesday, September 12th in the NEW CHORUS ROOM, I-6!! THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO CLEAN OUT THOSE CLOSETS, BASEMENTS, GARAGES, DRAWERS, AND ATTICS. You will be responsible for setting prices; we will need some people there to take cash, etc. When it's all over, whatever's left will need to be picked up, or you can choose to contribute a small sum to a removal service that will take all leftovers. DO NOT TRY TO SELL CLOTHING OR SHOES (unless they are truly vintage items). PLEASE RESPOND TO ME IF YOU THINK YOU WILL BE BRINGING AT LEAST 6 ITEMS TO THE SALE SO WE CAN SEE WHAT THE SCOPE OF THIS MIGHT BE, and if we should go forward. All monies raised would go to CCPOPS for a specific purpose (this is currently being discussed). So let's get organized, clean out the trash and treasures, and help out CCPOPS at the same time! Patty had a set budget for the weekend, part of that was golf and a lesson. The kids and POPS picked up the golf, which meant we did more then we could or would have. We left our house at 3:15 am for a 6:00 AM flight, unknown to us, the terminal which requires you to be at the airport two hours before, didn?t open until 4:45 AM. OK, we waited and were right up in the front of what became a very large line. The flight was empty and we had two rows to stretch out and sleep. I don?t think Patty even remembers the flight. As per instruction from a landlord, we opened a card from her when we hit Atlanta. She had made reservation for us on Sunday Night at a very fancy and exclusive restaurant in Hilton Head. Now, when we were renting a car for the weekend, knowing that we had a little fun money, we decided to spend $15.00 a day more and rent a convertible. It was a burgundy, Chysler Sterling, very cool. We had so much fun driving around Hilton Head in this great car. Our first round of Golf was great, we played 9 holes and it was really beautiful. At the 8th hole a red tail hawk came to visit us in a tree that was less then a 100 feet away. He was so beautiful. After a nap, we needed one, we took a long walk on the beach looking for shells and splashing around in the water. It was 80+ degrees. That night we had a fabulous dinner at a local restaurant. We made friends with the wine captain and he selected for us an incredible wine to go with our meal. Another thing we wouldn?t have indulged in if not for your gift. The next day we woke up to sunrise on the ocean, coffee on the deck of our room, looking out at the sunrise while dolphins played in the surf. (I?m not making this up.) We had a quick breakfast and went to our lesson. It was great and I fixed a major problem in my game. We then played 18 at Plantation Row and made it back in time to have nice lunch by the water. The course was great, we saw a few alligators, one sitting right next to someone?s ball. It was lot?s fun. We decided to push back our reservations for dinner and did a sunset walk on the beach. It had been in the upper 70?s all day and now it was cooling down. We walked for an hour or so and watched some incredible colors in the sky. When we got to dinner, we found that we had the best table in the house, over looking the water with trees that had hanging vines all around our window. Sandy our landlord had arranged it all including a gift certificate for dinner as a birthday gift for both of us. . It was just an incredible meal. It was a perfect evening. The next day we went golfing at Old South, which has holes that play out to islands. It was a beautiful day, we actually golfed pretty well. I had 3 par?s on the day. We ate, drove to the airport in our cool convertible and reluctantly made it home. Thank you all so much for the gift and thank you for the party. I am really deeply touched by both. I know I can never express just how much your friendship, acceptance and caring means to me. Thank you for the support both personally and I thank on behalf of all the students who help so greatly. It was a really special day and a really special weekend. The Carlisle Middle School needs a director for its annual 7th grade play! Do you know someone who might fit the bill? The actual play will be selected in conjunction with the new director by the end of the calendar year (before the director from previous years goes on maternity leave). A choreographer and music director are already in place. The production will be April 4th, 5th, and 6th. Rehearsals will start in January, and are typically after school, with a few evening rehearsals the week before the production. The play receives lots of support from the Carlisle parents. It's the only big show the kids get to do (there's no more 8th grade play) so we want to make sure it happens with a director who loves working with 13 year olds! Euripides wrote this play to express his outrage at Athens' war against Sparta. This modern interpretation illustrates the parallels between ancient and current times and the consequences of war, particularly to those defeated. Social Studies teacher and acting Director, Ben Kendall, has been waiting many years to direct "Trojan Women". Chuck Brown encouraged this opportunity and is busy as Producer. In support of their work, parent help is needed in the following areas: COSTUMES - Susie Schmidt is in charge of costumes. She needs a few people to assist her in locating and/or sewing period attire. If you can help, please contact her at 287-0194 or schmidt@ll.mit.edu as soon as possible. FEED THE KIDS - Shelley Abend is running this. Most of this effort is concentrated in the first week of December. Shelley needs several other parents to be actively involved. Please contact her at 369-1267 to help. REFRESHMENTS - someone is needed to take charge of this area. We're not looking for anything elaborate - just some simple snacks and drinks. Please call Debbie Wengrovitz at 371-2616 or email to volunteer. Performances will be in the CCHS auditorium on Dec. 7 and 8 at 7:30P and Dec. 9 at 2:30P. Tickets are on sale now for $8.00 at West Concord 5 &10, Video Revolution, The Cheese Shop, The Toy Shop, and Daisy's and will also be sold at lunchtime in the CCHS cafeteria. Please encourage your families and friends to attend. (The play is appropriate for high school - adult ages). Call me at 371-2616 or email if you have any questions. There's a nice description of the play on our website at: www.ccpops.org Thanks, Debbie --- Original Message ----- From: Debbie Wengrovitz To: ccpops announce Cc: bkendall@colonial.net Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2001 11:06 AM Subject: Trojan Women - parent help needed for Dec performances Written over 2500 years ago, "The Trojan Women", addresses themes for our times. THANKS TO KATE KELEHER AND JANE HOGAN FOR HANDLING THE PUBLICITY FOR THIS. Debbie . -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Please be advised that the CC-POPS monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 12th at 7pm will double as the FIRST "ANYTHING GOES" PRODUCTION MEETING. CC-POPS business will be kept to a minimum and we will turn the floor over to Mr. Brown who will entrance us with his creative vision for this show. All ideas and contributions are welcome. You should come to this meeting if you want to work on the musical in any capacity - large or small - and want to hear about the plans to date. Most of the major committees have chairpeople in place, so you don't have to worry about being recruited for a big job. (Well, you might worry a little - you never know with us...) After the general discussion, we will break out into committees to begin planning and set timelines for the tasks ahead. Committees include (but are never limited to...) Sets, costumes, hair & make-up, tech and crew support, publicity, program & program ads, ticket sales, poster distribution, "Feed the Kids", and the ever-popular Front of House. Think sailors, cruise ships, big bands, roaring twenties, dancing girls (& boys!), love, romance, comedy and intrigue. Now think about decorating the lobby. Anchors aweigh!!! See you on the 12th at 7pm in Room I-6. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... A reminder that there is a mandatory joint rehearsal for Chorus on Tuesday night from 7:00-8:30 PM at CCHS. The Holiday Concert for Chorus and Orchestra is on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM. On Wednesday night, we will be collecting : NEW TOYS (unwrapped), HOLIDAY CANDY, CANNED AND BOXED NON-PERISHABLE FOOD, PERSONAL CARE ITEMS, DIAPERS, HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES. Thank-you for your support. The concert should be a delightful one; the chorus will sing two pieces, they will join the orchestra for two pieces and, as a bonus, the Thoreau Fifth Grade Chorus (80 strong) will join CCHS for two additional pieces. The CCHS Bands will perform their Holiday Concert on Thursday evening, also at 7:30 PM. And finally, to get the vacation started in fine style, the cast lists for both "Anything Goes" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be posted at CCHS on Friday!
