Just a reminder that Saturday is almost here and we hope we'll see you at CCHS in I6 to help with the construction and organizing. We plan to be there between 9am and 5pm. The earlier we can get a large crew of people going, the better. So bring your tools, all helping hands and we'll have a great time! At this moment, the weather report suggests a storm. We are going to assume that it will not be bad enough to deter us from the task. Watch your email Friday for any updates..... Look forward to seeing you Saturday. Given the unpredictability of the storm tonight, we have decided to postpone the workday until next Saturday, January 11. Same time, same place, same drill. 9am to 5pm. Come for any block of time that will work for you. If we can get a large crew in the early part of the day, that would be great. Those handy with drills etc, bring them, the rest of us will come with our will to work and our organizing skills. Bring any of the teenagers who are willing to help too! Once again, if you would call or send me a return email letting me know that you can come and the approximate times, it would be a great help. Have fun in the snow. See you next week. Last week's snowstorm forced us to postpone the Saturday workday, yet we still need to get the prop closet organized, install hanging racks for the wonderful wardrobe that Susie and Karen B. have collected (owning so many pieces really decreases the expense of all shows), build a closet in I-6 so that all the expensive tech equipment can be safely stored, and install a picture-hanging rail in I-6 in order to display the beautiful posters that Karen M. has created as remembrances of so many performances. Our efforts will both protect investments and add value to the space! The workday is rescheduled for this Saturday, January 11, but now many of our 'handiest' individuals are unable to come. If you can possible spare any time at all on Saturday - especially if you have experience with basic construction - PLEASE drop by. Your help will be so appreciated! (We also can use many 'unskilled' hands!) We'll be at CCHS from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm and we hope to see you anytime! 'Ragtime' set-build is still scheduled for Saturday, January 18. Recruiting folks for two Saturdays in a row seems so greedy, but I hope you all realize how much we appreciate your willingness to make things happen for the students! Please call me (978 369-4406) or email me if you can commit to these projects. (But feel free to drop in at the spur of the moment, as well!) The high school is so busy with so many community groups and school groups placing demands on the space. We were left with no space that could be used for this workshop. We are working on a new date--we will let you know. 2. Dance Club for all students will re-ignite on 3/13 (Thursday) at 230 in the auditorium. We (Chuck and I) recently learned that the proceeds from the Laramie Project went missing from the main office very shortly after we deposited them. I am looking for anyone who may have written a check at the door. If you wrote a check at an outlet, those were deposited at a separate time and are fine. The deposit that I made the Monday after the show was for $2490.00, most of which was in cash. I do remember that there were 9 checks - 5 for $10, 3 for $20, and 1 for $30. My deposit shows that the $30 check was check #2015. I am desperately trying to find the people who wrote these to find out if by any chance they cleared. If they cleared, then we can try to argue that our money was deposited with someone elses deposit. Please check your check registers and bank statements - any information you have would be appreciated. If this money is not found, it will not be reimbursed to us. Not only will all the earnings from the kids hard work be lost, but we will have quite a debt to overcome as we try to put on another huge performance. Thanks in advance for anything you find. Below is a list of things we are currently looking for. Contact us-- Susie Schmidt at 978-287-0194 or Karen Belinky at >978-371-0994 if you have anything you can lend or donate. If you have a child in the show, please talk to them about what they need and see if you can provide any of it. If each parent could help costume their own child, it would be an enormous help. Call us if you aren't sure what your child needs. Ragtime is a very costume-rich musical. The storyline follows the >intermingled destinies of three groups of people starting in 1906. So costumes are basically turn of the century. >There are the middle and upper class white people, who wear fashionable >clothing in pastels and creams. Image needs to stay light for all the characters. For this group we are currently looking for: >Men's straw boater hats >Ladies floorlength skirts, straight or tulip-shaped >Women's Gibson Girl-style blouses with puff sleeves >Dresses with long skirts and high necked bodices >1 women's suit with fitted jacket and long skirt, size 12 >2 elegant dresses for the period, size 12 >Short white or beige women's gloves >2 nice shawls in neutral light colors For all these clothes, we are particularly in need of sizes from 12 up to 16. > >Then there is the black population. The theme here is stronger but muted colors and patterns of deep red, green yellow, rust, etc. >For this group we need: >Women's long skirts, full, straight or tulip shaped i >Women's Gibson-girl style blouses in white or colors >Dresses with long skirtsand high necked bodices >Men's long driving coats Once again for the women, we are looking especially for larger sizes from 12 to 18. > >Finally there are the immigrants, mostly from Eastern Europe, Ireland, >Germany, etc. who are "just off the boat". This group will be wearing dark >colors, deep grey, and brown with touches of deep or bright red. They will look quite raggedy. For them we need: >Large shawls, in dark colors or ethnic prints >Long dark women's skirts plain and ethnic >Dark overcoats for men and women >Dark colored hats or head scarfs for women (also deep red) >Mufflers in red or gray or brown. >Fingerless gloves ( any old gloves we can cut fingers off will do also.) Other items we are looking for include: >4 baseball mitts >old fashioned baseball caps >a pair of men's leather riding boots, size 10 1/2 to 11 >lots of bow ties, lots of different colors >6 pairs of suspenders. Any color >Somewhat fancy traveling dress for a female vaudeville star, size 0 up to size 4 >A brown haired wig, preferably long straight hair. Not too large head size. Needed child. Curly short brown would be second choice. >Shop aprons, preferably gray or a washed out color in the blue family >2 watch fobs >The costumes for this play are very important. In many cases the costume >defines who the person is. Just be aware that anything you lend us will get >hard use. We will try to keep them in as good a condition as possible, but >in the heat of performance, they will be subject to a lot of wear and >tear. Do not offer any cherished family heirlooms! Please mark any pieces >you lend us and we will see that they get cleaned before they are returned. If you do not wish to have them back, let us know and we will keep them for our costume closet. This job could easily be shared between two people. Here is the job description for the chair: Become the caretaker of all our memories! Coordinate the "shooters" for still photos, videos and audio recordings of our productions. Organize (with a committee) orders from families for copies all of the above. Create displays for the chorus room, the main lobby, and scrapbooks. Maintain an archival record of productions (see scrapbooks above) for future generations. Here's a chance to be remembered! Most of this job can be done on your time, with a flexible schedule. Technical knowledge of photo/video not necessary - if you can order copies of your family snapshots , you can do this job! This is a great way to be a part of CC-POPS on a flexible schedule. Call Karen with questions or if you'd like to "understudy" during Ragtime. Thanks! In addition, there are a number of special characters. The major costumes will be supplied by the costume committee. We have been fitting costumes on the New Rochelle and Harlem cast for several weeks and will be fitting the Immigrant cast in the next week. In addition to the costumes, the cast will need to have proper footware, hosiery and undergarments. The cast should provide as much of this themselves as they can. If anyone has trouble finding the right things, please call me, Susie Schmidt at 978-287-0194. For the New Rochelle women and Immigrant women who are also dancers: You will need white opaque hose or tights. The dancers should wear character shoes or jazz shoes; non-dancers should wear character shoes if they have them, or shoes with short heals or nice, dressy half-boots. The shoes may be either black or light colored. In addition, some of the New Rochelle costumes are rather sheer. The girls should wear full slips or half slips with camisole or undershirt. The slips should be white or natural and floor length if possible. For the New Rochelle men: The men who are dancers should wear character shoes. We have some available if you need them. The other men should wear dress shoes either black or brown, with tan socks. Please do not wear sneakers. For the Harlem Women: You should have dark hose and dark shoes. Those who are dancers should wear character shoes. We have a limited number of character shoes available for those who need them. The shoes may have either be flats or heeless. Nice, dressy half-boots are also acceptable. Slips with camisoles are recommended, but not required. The Harlem costumes are much more opaque than the New Rochelle ones. For the Harlem Men: You should wear dress shoes and dark socks or socks that match the vest you are wearing if you know what the color is. Dancers should wear character shoes. We have a lot of men's character shoes available if you need them. For Immigrant Women: You should have dark shoes or boots. If you are wearing shoes, wear dark hose or socks with them. Your costumes will mostly be heavy, so special undergarments are not necessary. Dancers should wear character shoes, jazz shoes or other shoes that are comfortable and safe for dancing. For Immigrant Men: You should wear old shoes or boots. Dancers should wear character shoes. We have a lot of men's character shoes available if you need them. The older and rattier the shoe the better. Wear dark socks with them. ----------------------------------------------- That's it. If anyone has any questions or any problems, please, please call me. We are good at solving problems. No one should feel like they have to go into debt to supply any of these things; if you have a problem, let me know. The main thing is please, no sneakers! Sneakers weren't really in style (or even in existence) during the 1910's. We do have a number of character shoes for both men and women available. Thank you for your cooperation. Now that I have your attention....I need a couple, three people for this Thursday, February 27 to help set up the cashboxes for Ragtime. We will be doing this at my house in Carlisle - start at about 7, shouldn't take more than an 1 1/2 hours - light refreshments provided. Melissa and Margie, are you still available? Then, on March 9, after the last performance, we will need several (8ish) folks to help count money/double check counts. We will do that at school, so if you're waiting around for your cast member/tech crew member/pit member and you would just LOVE to hang out at CCHS awhile longer, we could really use your help! You will receive copious amounts of gratitude and appreciation - but no payment! Just the usual volunteer act! Let me know at lindachat1@aol.com or call 978-287-5904 (my business line). Mr. Damon is retiring this June after many years of service to CCHS. CCPOPS is honoring him with VIP tickets for the Saturday, March 1st performance of 'Ragtime' and Sandy Barber (in her role as CCPOPS Hospitality) is organizing a reception for him in the CCHS library on the same night, beginning at 6:00pm. We have invited 'dignitaries' from the community - school committee members, selectmen, etc. and it would be wonderful to have a strong contingent of CCPOPS members there! Sandy would be grateful if you could offer to bring along a finger hors d'oeuvres or dessert, or offer to help with set-up and/or clean-up. Please contact Sandy at < sbarber@hbs.edu > to RSVP or to offer your help. Please do your best to stop by and join CCPOPS in thanking Mr. Damon! Pops concert: A huge thank-you to everyone who baked delicious cookies, helped with set-up, stayed to clean-up, and supported our students. The performances of the Orchestra and Vocal Groups were as impressive as always. I have in my possession some items that were left behind on Saturday night, specifically, a battery, cable and film that seem to belong to a JVC video camera. Give me a shout if you are missing these items! 2.) Common Cathedral Outreach: A group of hearty and unselfish students distributed lunches to the homeless congregation of 'Common Cathedral' on Sunday during monsoon weather! Lydia Sapp, Ali McGuirk. Michael Jamison and Rachel Cooper will receive community service hours for their generous offering (probably the most physically uncomfortable hours of their high school careers!) I was especially touched when '03 students were willing to spend their Sunday in such inclement weather, as they had nothing to gain but a sense of personal fulfillment: Carl Nadler, John Wilson, David Ballard and Ellie Monserud are very special Seniors! All eight students proudly represented CCHS and their presence was appreciated. Sincere gratitude is extended to Sara Ballard who organized the whole endeavor for us and to Susie Chivas and Rick Moore who also braved the wet weather to help on Sunday. 3.) Next Year's Monthly Meetings: Finally, I am hoping that you will be offer some direction as we plan the calendar for the '03-'04 school year. This year we tried (not always successfully) to offer monthly meetings on different days, so that folks with standing commitments would be able to attend once in awhile. On the other hand, I realize that inconsistency can be confusing, and makes it easier to forget about the monthly meeting. I am seeking your help with this decision. Please reply and indicate whether you would prefer the monthly meetings to be held on the same evening each month, or would like to see them 'bounced about' on different days of the week. This request is for those who have been a part of the program in a limited way, those who wanted to be part of the program but haven't had the chance to participate, and those who have wondered what it is all about and how to get involved. ? Simplified, we absolutely need your help. ???????? The rest of you that have been integral to the success of the program I know will be there to hear about next year and to help continue providing a wonderful program for the kids. As CCPOPS grows and parents graduate, we need new people with new ideas and energy to continue and to enhance this parent organization. ? I have some big plans and new ideas so come and find out them and how you can help enhance the experience the kids get through his program. ? We need your help and desire your camaraderie so we hope to see you there. ? If you know of any "soon to be" freshman parents invite them along. ? The Chorus Room (I-6) has had only temporary risers for the chorus seats in the room, and those risers are often borrowed for various and sundry uses around CCHS, leaving the chorus regularly riser-less. This is disruptive to the chorus and to Mr. Brown, so he was able to gain permission from the school administration to build permanent risers. Paul Minor, dad of Travis '05, is working with Mr. Brown to design them, and a couple of our faithful set builders have already committed their Saturday to help build them. Please be sure to fill out a permission slip for EACH show for which you are purchasing tickets. If you are purchasing tickets for multiple shows, you may write one check ? made payable to CCPOPS. Please be sure to include your email address on the permission slip (write as clearly as possible); an email will be sent out prior to each show including departure times from CCHS, show times, and arrival times back to CCHS. It is coming right up, and you don't want to miss out on a wonderful evening! You can buy your tickets online at ccpops.org with Pay Pal, a secure site. I did that myself, and it was easy! You can also return the form you received with your invitation, or you can purchase your tickets at the normal outlets (Daisy's, Video Revolution, The Concord Toy Shop. The Cheese Shop, West Concord 5&10). Another good reason to go online to ccpops.org is to start your bidding -- the auction is live, and people are bidding! here are many wonderful auction items. Want to conduct the chorus? Here is your chance. Like chocolate? Enjoy some Dante's Chocolates. Want to get fit? Try out some of the local gyms with gift certificates they have provided. Like Seinfeld? We have some tickets. What about Regis and Kelly? We have some of those tickets too. We have these items and many, many more, with more being added every day. Don't miss out on this wonderful evening. A Time To Shine is a traditionally sold out annual event to raise money to support the choral, drama and orchestral programs at CCHS. No other event in Concord supports this cause. Singing, dancing, and comedic entertainment, combined with a delicious supper and silent auction make for a lively and fun evening. Our program is set, and includes a wonderful variety of perfomances from parents and teachers. It will conclude with music from The Aural Fixations, the BU A Cappella group. Any questions?
