The CCHS drama department will be sponsoring a trip to see Sweet Charity at 7:30pm on Sunday, March 20th at the Colonial Theatre. Tickets will be $30 and will include the cost of transportation. The bus will depart the high school at 6:30 pm. As with Phantom of the Opera and Little Shop of Horrors, tickets are first come, first serve. In order to have a space reserved, a signed permission slip and check made out to CCPOPS must either be brought to Mrs. Jamison (chorus room during morning chorus blocks) or mailed to Erica Karban (CCHS, 500 Walden Street, Concord, MA 01742). If interested, the permission slip below can be printed off and sent in with a check. I want to work at an administrative level where I can use my talents and energy to further advance the education of students. Natick Public School district is in the process of creating a new position for the coordinator of their Art, Music and Drama programs. It is an exciting and intriguing idea; a new coordinator whose job will primarily entail furthering the field of arts, music and drama in public education. I was offered, and accepted the position of Director of Fine and Performing Arts in the Natick School District. I will begin working in Natick in the fall. This is a somewhat long explanation that can be summed up by saying I am leaving CCHS for a new career in administration. My time at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School has been wonderful. We have had quite a run in the last six years. I think about all the shows, the concerts, trips and events we did and I want to thank all of you for supporting me in these endeavors. I will never again know a more dedicated group of parents and community members than I have found in Concord. I am excited to start my new career but I am already feeling the loss of everything here. I loved working here and I will remember this job as a really special time in my life. Thank you for everything. I am sending this email as I simultaneously tell the choruses of my plans for the future. I wanted you to hear this from me and be ready to help explain to the kids why I am leaving and what career opportunities are all about. Plans are in the works to begin a search for a new choral director; I will assist in that search. I will continue to plan for next year and make sure that the calendar, facilities and budget are ready for whoever fills the position. Again, I can not thank you enough for all the things we achieved while I worked at CCHS. I hope you can understand my reasons for leaving and I hope with all my heart that we can find someone who will continue to raise the standards and provide the opportunities for the students. I have fond memories of teamwork that led to great achievements and profound learning. With much admiration and gratitude, Chuck Brown Browncuse@aol.com =========================================================================== From erkarban at rcn.com Thu May 12 19:10:42 2005 From: erkarban at rcn.com (Erica R. Concord-Carlisle High School presents Time Flies and Other Plays about Love and Death , six absurd comedies by David Ives. Ives' plays are famous for their absurd story lines and witty word play. While humorous, they are also profound, touching on themes of love, life and death. The six plays are taken from two collections; All in the Timing and Time Flies , and are being directed by CCHS teacher Ben Kendall. Sure Thing is a tale of strangers meeting in a cafe and trying to start a conversation. Every time one of them makes a gaff, a bell rings and they must start the scene over again. Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread is a musical vignette in which Philip Glass, the famous modernist composer, has a brief existential crisis while in a bakery. In Time Flies , two mayflies, Horace and May, learn from a nature show on TV that they have only 24 hours to live. As the clock ticks, they try to understand the meaning of life and love. The Universal Language brings together Don, a teacher and creator of a new universal language, and Dawn, an idealistic woman with a stutter who finds she is able to connect with Don through this strangely familiar nonsense language. But what happens when Don's secret is revealed? Variations on the Death of Trotsky is both morbid and comical as Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky discovers he has a mountain climbing axe buried in his head and struggles to come to terms with his fate. In Soap Opera a washing machine repairman must decide between life with a state-of-the-art washing machine (the perfect woman) or a real woman (who is of course imperfect.) The cast includes Lora Borges, Abby Burnham, Chase Cicchetti, Joyce Corrao-Clannon, Kat Courtney, David Dawson, Desiree De La Cruz, Gene Delsener, John Eldridge, Emily Fritz-Endres, Angie Gennis, Kristina Gorman, Annie Jacoby, David Jubinsky, Brendan Kavanagh, Max Lewin, Gina Murphy, Campbell Payne, Russell Peck, Nikki Spencer, Walter Woodward and Lisa Yanofsky. Jacquie O'Kelly is the student assistant director Time Flies and Other Plays will be performed at the CCHS Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, June 12 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <5EFD2B40-44B2-11DA-8D90-000A9575F2EA@verizon.net> Thank you to everyone who helped out with A Time to Shine. The cafeteria was transformed to a festive venue, the entertainment was outstanding, the food was incredible, the raffles were varied and interesting (and very lucrative for some!) and the overall mood of the evening was relaxed and happy. There were so many people involved in organizing and helping with decorations, food, publicity, set-up, clean-up, tickets sales, raffles, donations of prizes, etc., etc. - I can't possibly list everyone but you should know that your efforts were much appreciated and enjoyed by all those who attended. We don't have a final accounting yet but we estimate that the profits will be between three and four thousand dollars. Raising money is great but a very important part of the event was the chance to socialize in a multigenerational crowd (attendees ranged in age from elementary school age to those in their seventies and beyond!) and to see what a positive impact the performing arts can have in everyone's life. CCPOPS is alive and well and will continue to support the students as they participate in these activities in high school and, we hope, for the rest of their lives. Special thanks to all those who donated desserts - they were truly spectacular (and delicious!). A few plates are on Margaret Coughlin's side porch at 40 Partridge Lane in Concord ready for pick up. Those that are labeled are Gorman, Daigle, Kurzon, Abbott, Cannon, and Paleologos - also one glass plate unmarked and two plastic plates unmarked. Thanks again to everyone and don't forget that coming up in the next two weeks are the Chorus Concert on the 26th and Dracula on November 4, 5 and 6. Diane Payne CCPOPS President ? I have two dentists I am going to approach but I don't expect these things will be that easy to come by so I would appreciate others checking in with their dentists as well. *CASH REGISTER - 1950's vintage *INTESTINES - (joke shop variety) maybe someone has something from Halloween?.... or a thought on how to make something that would pass for intestines from a distance. *BAG OF SPIDER WEBS - The soft stretchy kind....again maybe left from Halloween. *CORN BROOM *SMALL LADDER - Sturdy enough to be used in the flower shop. 4-5 ft. *GARDEN TOOLS - These will be added to the dentist's tray for humor. This is a preliminary list. I have started to go through the artificial flowers and what appeared like a good supply is probably not going to be enough for the "renovated shop". I will keep you posted on that and on other needs. At the moment we can all get going on the above. The first two items are the most important. Thank you for your help with this. Lee Mulhall I am available most of the time on my cell 978-758-9413 but feel free to leave a message on the home answering machine 978-369-2247.
