REMINDER - COME SEE THE SPRING PLAY!
Concord-Carlisle High School presents Time Flies and Other Plays about
Love and Death ,
six absurd comedies by David Ives. Ives' plays are famous for their
absurd story lines and witty word play. While humorous, they are also
profound, touching on themes of love, life and death. The six plays
are taken from two collections; All in the Timing and Time Flies , and
are being directed by CCHS teacher Ben Kendall.
Sure Thing is a tale of strangers meeting in a cafe and trying to
start a conversation. Every time one of them makes a gaff, a bell
rings and they must start the scene over again. Philip Glass Buys a
Loaf of Bread is a musical vignette in which Philip Glass, the famous
modernist composer, has a brief existential crisis while in a bakery.
In Time Flies , two mayflies, Horace and May, learn from a nature show
on TV that they have only 24 hours to live. As the clock ticks, they
try to understand the meaning of life and love. The Universal Language
brings together Don, a teacher and creator of a new universal
language, and Dawn, an idealistic woman with a stutter who finds she
is able to connect with Don through this strangely familiar nonsense
language. But what happens when Don's secret is revealed? Variations
on the Death of Trotsky is both morbid and comical as Russian
revolutionary Leon Trotsky discovers he has a mountain climbing axe
buried in his head and struggles to come to terms with his fate. In
Soap Opera a washing machine repairman must decide between life with a
state-of-the-art washing machine (the perfect woman) or a real woman
(who is of course imperfect.)
