[CitizensTruth] noise machine [was: ...Supreme Court deliberates Obama Citizenship...]

Present challenges to Obama's citizenship have a lot in common with
classic noise machine / echo chamber attacks. See David Brock's "The
Republican Noise Machine" or the recent bio of Lee Atwater on PBS.

The objective of a Noise Machine attack is not so much to win the
argument at hand, as to spread a damaging story as far as it will go.
It starts on the fringes with the likes of Corsi and the freepers.
From there the next stop is Drudge and/or WorldNetDaily, then on to
Limbaugh and the shock jocks, then Fox (not sure this issue is going
that far), and finally the so-called main stream.

The goal is to undermine the popular mandate and derail progressive
initiatives by means of distraction and character assassination. The
more the story is echoed, the more it chews away at its target. As
Naomi Klein points out, it's not just the message that matters, it's
the amplification.
