Beginning with the "E-House," an experimental laboratory that a family actually lives in, new ideas for efficiency are continually explored. There may be a new super-clean, super-efficient fireplace design one month, or home cooling that uses ground water and a fan, and anything else that could be dreamed up. Following with Michael Gainer's deconstruction vs. demolition wonder business, we see how old housing currently fill landfills at the end of its useful life, and how it can be disassembled and re-used in home improvement projects, sustainable furniture, and myriad other ways. A shining jewel of this method is that the character, charm, and intricate design of many earlier architectural features is preserved and even showcased. Additionally, new jobs are added to the local economy through this effort. Finally, we wrap up with with modular recycling; housing built from used steel cargo containers. Add a room? No Problem! Lift off the roof and set a couple down next to your existing home, add in some wiring, plumbing, glass and other odds and ends, you just doubled your living space. Stack them on top of your existing house to build up. Start off with a multi-family dwelling such as a two-or three flat. Love wide-open views and a super-strong structure? Love leaving our forests standing and breathing in CO2? Here you go - check out the cool finishes and "skins" you can put on the exterior. Living large definitely gets a smaller footprint in this uplifting, hopeful documentary entitled simply "Live ." A bit of business first: Although the event was well attended, the sponsoring groups are still approximately $400 in the hole. Be sure to send an email specifying your name and contribution so it can be properly earmarked. Now for a summary of the event: Kevin Barrett gave opening remarks which I think prepared the crowd on an emotional level, and then Richard Gage presented his power point slide presentation. Mr. Gage spoke for 2 1/2 hours, and included an interesting question and answer session. Mr. Gage has been polishing his presentation ever since he started giving them and it shows. Some 200+ individuals attended. This included about 28 folks who were on the fence about the official story, and 8 individuals who believed the official story. At the end of the talk, all 8 former believers were converts, which in my mind made the event a resounding success. We did have a group of individuals who came all the way from the Peoria/Champaign areas so hopefully at least some of those folks are on our Citizens list and can forward this summary to other 9-11 truthers in the Peoria/Champaign area. Dan Kummer of Lone Lantern taped the event and hopes to put it up on Cable Access channels throughout Northern Illinois. Mr. Gage is also in the process of developing a 58 minute presentation that would be cable access ready. If any of you are new to Citizens or know any architects or engineers, you might want to refer them to Gage's website, where they can view signatories and a video of an earlier Gage presentation: http://www.ae911truth.org/ Again if you can see your way to making a small donation to help defray some of the remaining event costs, please visit http://www.dupage911truth.org/page3.html where you can make a donation through paypal. I didn't know this until I saw the interview on C-SPAN (Washington Journal) this morning with the Editor of "The Hill." He explained it, but unfortunately I didn't give it my full attention. It has something to do with the way Kucinich introduced the bill using a special prioritization procedure that enabled him to bypass normal channels. I think he did this to bypass Pelosi, but I couldn't say for sure. Anyway, I think the source is reliable. If you want to see it for yourself, I think C-SPAN repeats Washington Journal at some point during the day. The interview was the very first part of the show this morning that aired at 6:00am Central Time. Hi, Robin-- Do you have a source on that? I'm no scholar of congressional procedure but I think a bill has to go to committee and be voted out of it, meaning a majority of the committee(s) has to approve it before it goes to the floor of the House. Maybe there's a committee vote today? I'm skeptical of that too, though, since one of the means of blocking any impeachment effort has been to refuse to set up committee hearings. But like I said, I don't follow all that down to the nits and grits so maybe someone else can find out what's going on here.... Jay Declare It Now! Wear Orange! Kucinich (D-Ohio) escalated his battle against the administration this week by introducing 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush, using a parliamentary maneuver that will probably force a vote today. Kucinich's impeachment measure accuses Bush of taking the country to war in Iraq under false pretenses; he introduced it as a "privileged resolution," which requires the House to take it up within two legislative days. Any lawmaker may offer a privileged resolution, but it is usually done only by party leaders. Kucinich, upon introducing his articles of impeachment Monday evening, insisted on reading the resolution into the Congressional Record, a process that took nearly five hours. He finished reading it late yesterday after the close of legislative business. As they have previously, Democratic leaders staunchly oppose Kucinich's impeachment effort. They expect to table the resolution by referring it to the Judiciary Committee, where they expect it to die. House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) suggested yesterday that engaging in a lengthy debate over impeaching Bush in the waning days of his administration is not a productive use of the House's time. Kucinich tried a similar maneuver last November, bringing an impeachment measure against Cheney to the floor as a privileged resolution. It was referred to the Judiciary Committee. Maybe there's a committee vote today? I'm skeptical of that too, though, since one of the means of blocking any impeachment effort has been to refuse to set up committee hearings. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), two days after presenting 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush , urged in a statement that a key House committee commence examination of the articles. "It is now imperative that the Judiciary Committee begin a review of the 35 articles," said Kucinich. "I will be providing supporting documentation to the committee so that it can proceed in an orderly manner. "The weight of evidence contained in the Articles makes it clear that President Bush violated the Constitution and the US Code as well as international law," said the Ohio lawmaker, whose efforts to impeach Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have been largely ignored by the mainstream media. The House of Representatives approved Kucinich's motion today to refer the articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI). Kucinich said on Wednesday that he would meet with Conyers this week. Conyers has yet to release a public statement on the motion, but has in the past not been supportive of impeachment efforts. The resolution to impeach Cheney, which Kucinich presented in April 2007, remains stalled in the committee he chairs. "It is the House's responsibility as a co-equal branch of government to provide an effective check and balance to executive abuse of power," Kucinich continued in the statement. "President Bush was principally responsible for directing the United States Armed Forces to attack Iraq. "I believe that there is sufficient evidence in the Articles to support the charge that President Bush allowed, authorized and sanctioned the manipulation of intelligence by those acting under his direction and control, misleading Congress to approve a resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq. "As a result over 4,000 United States soldiers have died in combat in Iraq, with tens of thousands injured, many of them permanently impaired," explained Kucinich. "Over a million innocent Iraqis have perished in a war which was based on lies, a war which will cost the American taxpayers as much as three trillion dollars. The Ohio lawmaker said that it is now "incumbent" for the Judiciary Committee to review evidence he presented. He promised that if the committee failed to hold any hearings on the resolution within thirty days, he would repeat his efforts. He told one reporter Wednesday , "Leadership wants to bury it, but this is one resolution that will be coming back from the dead. ... I will be bringing the resolution up again, and I won't be the only one reading it." Kucinich closed in his statement, "We must not only create an historical record of the misconduct of the Bush administration, but we must make sure that any future administration is forewarned about the constitutionally proscribed limits of executive authority and exercise of power contravening the Constitution." And now it is on the record exactly who voted what and I think that gives the American people more information than they had before re. the upcoming election and moving forward. It literally laid out on the table for them, verbally even, exactly what they are or are not stepping up to the plate to address. It sorts them all out in terms of their ball quotient and I think that helps. I have long thought it helpful to know just who is in my court and who is not. I for one would not have wanted to go down in the record of this country as NOT supporting this measure, had it come up to an official count, which it has. And also, should this come up again, it now shows how many more it would take to pass this proposition. And it clearly shows Dennis' courage --- this present day David standing up to the Goliath of our collectively brain/conscience- damaged body of Government called Congress. In his keynote address at the Media Reform Conference, Bill Moyers likened what is going on to what goes on for an alcoholic, and I would say it could be likened to other major addictions as well. We collectively have many characteristics of a severely addicted individual and UNdoing an addiction is a very messy business and is never fun or easy. And usually there is MUCH damage to clean up, I just returned from the Media Reform Conference. There are some stunning individuals who have come forth through that organization, and it is clear to me, for the third time attending as a concerned citizen, that mobilizing around media reform is one of the seminal necessities in pushing both back at the current psychopathic addictive behaviors who keep exerting their pathological and egocentric decisions, and also steering new policy toward moving forward in a way that makes not only survival but transformation possible. It is clear we will change, we will cope in one way or another. A media that helps to bring us together through keeping us honestly informed of what is going on is a major part of that, cuz one way or t'other, we're going through this transition, folks, which is far larger than any one or several governments on Mama Earth. And relative to where we all live, here on a very busily transitioning Mother Earth, we ARE in this all together. And I count myself fortunate to have come to know Hal, who deserves a very large expression of gratitude for facilitating this group multi-logue... There are a couple of wars going on, unemployment is on the rise as the value of a house continues to fall, millions of Americans have no health insurance, and did we mention that gas prices are expected to hit $5 a gallon? You get the idea. And still, some in Congress feel the nation is just itching for another presidential impeachment. Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who has made a career out of eye-rolling issues like these, said this week he wants the House to consider a resolution to impeach President Bush. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Delray Beach, who is smarter than this, supported the Articles of Impeachment, which won't go anywhere and thankfully have been buried in a committee not likely to hold hearings before Bush leaves office. Last year, Kucinich led the misguided charge to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, and Wexler supported that. In the case of Bush, Wexler called it a "sworn duty" of Congress to act. This war has cost us the lives of 4,090 US soldiers, injuries to over 30,000, and more than a trillion taxpayer dollars when it is all said and done. It is a dark day when the Sun-Sentinel has the gall to tell the parents of the soldiers who have died in Iraq that pursuing consequences for those that prosecuted this war of choice based on outright deception is not a "REAL" issue that Congress should address. Sadly, the war is only the beginning. We now know that this Administration illegally ordered the torture of prisoners, obstructed justice by lying about the outing of a covert CIA agent and authorizing warrantless spying on American citizens. No one can deny that if proven these allegations amount to High Crimes. Our failure to act sets an awful precedent and enables future Presidents to break the law and violate our Constitution without sanctions from Congress. The Sentinel says impeachment is the wrong "remedy" for this litany of crimes. What then is the proper remedy? A harsh lecture? A strongly worded editorial? Or how about doing absolutely nothing in the face of these outrageous abuses of power? Impeachment hearings need not distract us from other important priorities such as the economy, gas prices and bringing the troops home from Iraq. Gen. Antonio Taguba (now retired) served as the deputy commanding general for support for the Third Army for ten months in Kuwait during the early days of the Iraq occupation. In a statement released today, he bluntly accuses the Bush administration of war crimes and lays down a challenge for prosecution. ????In 2004, Taguba released a classified report detailing abuses committed at Abu Ghraib Prison. The "Taguba Report" (executive summary) urged Pentagon officials to follow up on its findings by enforcing adherence to the Geneva Conventions in interrogations. ????Taguba retired in January 2007, later alleging that Pentagon officials had ordered him to retire for being "overzealous" in his criticisms of the military. ????In light of ongoing Congressional investigations into so-called harsh interrogation techniques, and on the heels of Congressman Dennis Kucinich recently issuing articles of impeachment accusing President Bush of, among other offenses, authorizing torture, we present Taguba's latest statement for your consideration. ????The full Physicians for Human Rights report outlining the medical evidence of torture perpetrated by the United States can be read at their website. ?::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ???? Preface to Broken Laws, Broken Lives ????By Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba, USA (Retired) ????Maj. Gen. Taguba led the US Army's official investigation into the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal and testified before Congress on his findings in May 2004. ????This report tells the largely untold human story of what happened to detainees in our custody when the Commander-in-Chief and those under him authorized a systematic regime of torture. This story is not only written in words: It is scrawled for the rest of these individuals' lives on their bodies and minds. Our national honor is stained by the indignity and inhumane treatment these men received from their captors. ????The profiles of these eleven former detainees, none of whom were ever charged with a crime or told why they were detained, are tragic and brutal rebuttals to those who claim that torture is ever justified. Through the experiences of these men in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, we can see the full scope of the damage this illegal and unsound policy has inflicted - both on America's institutions and our nation's founding values, which the military, intelligence services, and our justice system are duty-bound to defend. ????In order for these individuals to suffer the wanton cruelty to which they were subjected, a government policy was promulgated to the field whereby the Geneva Conventions and the Uniform Code of Military Justice were disregarded. The UN Convention Against Torture was indiscriminately ignored. And the healing professions, including physicians and psychologists, became complicit in the willful infliction of harm against those the Hippocratic Oath demands they protect. ????After years of disclosures by government investigations, media accounts, and reports from human rights organizations, there is no longer any doubt as to whether the current administration has committed war crimes. The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who ordered the use of torture will be held to account. ????The former detainees in this report - each of whom is fighting a lonely and difficult battle to rebuild his life - require reparations for what they endured, comprehensive psycho-social and medical assistance, and even an official apology from our government. ????But most of all, these men deserve justice as required under the tenets of international law and the United States Constitution. ????And so do the American people. ????--------- ????Also See: Human Rights Group Says It Has Proof of Detainee Abuse ? If you or a member of your family are serving in the active military, the National Guard or Reserves, you know that elections matter. "If you are a wounded veteran, you know that elections matter. If you've lost your job; if you're struggling with a mortgage, you know that elections matter."? To which I would add: ? If elections matter and they decide public policy, then why didn't you, Al Gore, fight harder in 2000 when the election which you won was stolen? Why didn't you call upon your supporters to march on the Supreme Court and demand that the vote count be continued and that all the votes be counted?? If elections matter, then how come John Kerry didn't fight harder in 2004 to make sure that the votes were counted, and why did he give up even though he actually won the election? If elections matter and you want your vote to count, how come the Democrat-controlled Congress in 2007 decided that it wasn't going to do anything about the hackable electronic voting machines until at least 2010? If elections matter, then why hasn't the 2006 mid-term election that gave the Democrats back the majority in Congress produced any of the changes that people thought they were voting for when they voted for Democrats? How come the war goes on, the torture continues, the spying on all of us persists, and another war ? on Iran this time ? is on the immediate horizon?? If elections matter, then how come the Democratic Party won't listen to majority sentiment that demands impeachment and an end to the war?? If elections matter, how come Sen. Barack Obama, elected to serve the people and the Constitution, doesn't understand what "high crimes and misdemeanors" are, how the Bush regime has exceeded the impeachment standard by leaps and bounds, and how come Obama won't do anything NOW about a president and vice-president who are flagrantly and repeatedly violating the law, carrying out invasions based on lies, threatening to do it again any week now, and who have admitted torturing people?? Con. Res. 362 Please forward widely. ... The U.S. House of Representatives is considering a new resolution that could effectively demand a blockade against Iran -- an act that would be widely seen as an act of war and could invite Iranian retaliation, possibly leading us into a shooting war. Over the last three weeks, 77 House Democrats and 92 Republicans have agreed to cosponsor this resolution, but we think many do not realize its dangerous implications. This resolution (H. Con. Res. 362) was introduced by Representative Gary Ackerman. The most alarming provision "demands that the President initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by, inter alia, prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran's nuclear program." Such a blockade imposed without United Nations authority (which the resolution does not call for) would be seen as an act of war. Congressional sources say the bill might first go to committee, which gives us a little more time to pressure our representatives. But whether or not it goes first to committee, or directly to the floor of the House, action on H. Con. Res. 362 is needed now. We urge you to ask your representative not to support this dangerous step toward war with Iran. Congressional leaders seem to have assumed that there would be little opposition to this punitive measure against Iran, and they have put it on a fast track to passage. But due to the threat of war, many organizations and reasonable members of Congress are working overtime to stop this bill. Won't you join them? Please take action now -- ask your representative to oppose this dangerous path that could lead directly to war with Iran. The Royal Bank of Scotland has advised clients to brace for a full-fledged crash in global stock and credit markets. So far, it is a carefully programmed and artfully implemented design. Bush's European tour put other Western players into orientation - England and Germany , especially - to what is ahead. But it will be more than financial shocks, it will be an invasion of the Middle East and subsequent Arab retaliation. The Arabs defeated the British Empire in the last Century and may defeat the American Empire in these decades. The world's people will be poor, starving and helpless to change matters. The Democrats have handed Bush the money for continued war after posturing against it for two years. Obama is the man of the financial and power elite and is wearing the costume necessary to convince Liberals, Blacks and those Left-of-Center that there really is a two-party system. The Socialists and "Comrades" of a more revolutionary sort are mounting an incursion into the minds of Europeans (they will never convince the American worker of Marxism, however, though they think they can). America is gearing for total war, feeding its military machine and may starve people unaligned with the Pentagon, if necessary, as it does other nations. The people have no political candidates and options remaining to stop the bloodbath they are conducting in the Middle East , not to mention the worldwide dislocations produced from their hegemonic megalomania and lawless rogues on Wall Street. The Beast grows in destructive capacity when sensing death approaching. But this bloodbath and these actions may return to America in the forms of Marshall Law, mass hunger, crushed revolts and civil war - as they are returning now in forms of economic disintegration. What may lie ahead is America 's Karma, which it builds upon and sentences itself to with each passing day. Induction says the body count will be high here after the stakes are finally realized by those who will decide to join in battle for the American Dream of world domination through "any means possible", and those who will resist or remain neutral. For the uncooperative nations of the world, it can only be a future of America against it; and for Americans, an international "endless war" together with a domestic one of Brother against Brother. While there will be banking collapses, rampant unemployment and homelessness, hunger, social malaise, civil disobedience and revolts, there will be no shortage of funding for the Pentagon and its megalithic welfare system of transnational corporations, soldiers, mercenaries and veterans. Will Gold Bullion be used to buy bread in such a military state, or buy one's freedom instead, I ask the Ron Paul devotees? In all probability, Western governments will find it necessary to initiate internet censorship and periodic periods of total blackout in the foreseeable future. This is a logical certainty for anyone still using their powers of reason. Though this leaves the question: What substitute alternatives have been established to ensure continued communications between parties? The answer is none. And that was and is in the blueprint behind this technology built by the Pentagon, that it be totalitarian. What new forms of economic exchange and bartering will take the place of worthless paper money and Gold that is not redeemable by the local grocer, farmer or landlord? These and more questions remain to be answered in the turbulent years ahead. In this past week, Thursday, June 19 was a benchmark day for those in America who are political benchsitters. Obama revealed yet another reversal and inconsistency, and Pelosi's Democrat House yet again rubber-stamped the President by granting immunity to Telecom spying and, after two years of faux battles, endorsed the continuation of war funding. It is no surprise that Senator Obama is freeing himself from Federal monies to insure his campaign coffers are not limited. After all, he is the chosen one of Warren Buffett, George Soros and others. Need I say more? The Obama cult and image were finely tuned to insure that his "cover" (populism) did not reveal all that he is and stands for (and must stand for to be elected). But can anyone see? Can he see? The Liberals have worked and will work hard to rationalize the Obama reversals, contradictions and double standards, if only to protect their euphoria from deflating into despair. Rest assured, though, whoever wins in November will deliver the same package to the same door: Militarism, Poverty and Depression; it is after-all a one-party system in America . In truth, Mssrs Obama (Mr Teflon II) and McCain (George Bush III) were chosen some time ago for this hour, and make no mistake about it, this "hour" was chosen too. By now, it should be perfectly clear that Americans live with a one-party system that represents money and war, period! Whoever so-called "wins" in November will deliver the same grueling package: Militarism, Poverty, Depression and - quite possibly - civil war. The system is broken along with the banks. Democracy is dead. Corruption is systemic. "The People" have no options left. It is as simple as that. I'd like to add that if you're looking for the kinds of foods of which Dan speaks, you can go to the Weston A. Price Foundation's website to find a chapter near you. Chapter leaders of this organization make it their business to know about these kinds of foods in your local area. For a list of what's available in northern Illinois, go to http://www.westonaprice-elgin.org/Pages/Resources.html. Please keep in mind that all the dairy listed on this site is RAW. It is not advertised as such to protect the farmers from harassment (It was a rude awakening for me to find out that one of Mother Nature's purest foods had become contraband). All the sources of food on this website meet the criteria Dan has outlined. Also, if you know of a producer that should be listed, please email me the details and I will add their information. If you want to look at the stranglehold big corporations have over Illinois agriculture, check out www.illinoisagriculturevision.org. Be sure to look at the current vision at http://www.illinoisagriculturevision.org/files/final4-28-08.pdf. It's sad that profitability is the driving force behind our state's vision for agriculture. Pretty short sighted if you ask me. To add a few more details to Dan's information, not only does this acidic environment allow salmonella to run rampant, but that is also EXACTLY why e-coli is such a problem. Normal e-coli present in everyone's bowel is highly sensitive to acid and CANNOT survive the trip through the normal human stomach which should have about a pH of 2 when it's been presented with food (basically a pH of battery acid). One should wonder then how this new strain of e-coli can survive that. It is because this new strain of acid-resistant e-coli came about in response to this nasty CAFO (concentrated animal feedlot operation) model of creating sick animals. We've been campaigning for a long time against something called NAIS, the National Animal Identification System. NAIS is a bureaucratic nightmare designed to tag every farm animal in America, and track them in yet another vast centralized government database. The alleged purpose of NAIS is too improve food safety, but the rules are written to favor large corporate farms, while strangling small farms in a web of expensive compliance costs. NAIS could put many farmers out of business and concentrate agriculture in fewer and fewer hands. This could make our food supply less safe, rather than more secure. Centralized food production will be more vulnerable to the spread of disease. We need diversity, not concentration. NAIS is also unnecessary. Despite highly publicized problems our food supply has actually been getting more safe, without additional regulation. The economist Alex Tabarrok provides the evidence here. In addition, some of the most publicized food problems, as with the sick cow forced into the food chain by the Hallmark/Westland company, owe more to the failure of government regulators to do their job using powers and resources they already have. In fact, those cows were tagged under current regulation. Obviously, that didn't prevent sick cows from being processed into meat for schoolchildren, and NAIS won't do so either. NAIS is just another government power grab. And, as usual, Congress and the bureaucracy are trying every trick in the book to ram this system down the throat of America's farmers. The tactics they're using could, ironically, be called "picking off the herd." If they can't pass NAIS, they'll phase elements of it in, piecemeal. The first piece of the meal is a provision inserted into a pending agriculture appropriations bill. This provision would prohibit the USDA from buying food for the federal school lunch program from farms that aren't NAIS compliant. And lest you think we're exaggerating about the intent, here's how House Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro presented this proposal to her Congressional colleagues . . . "We will also strengthen Animal ID and the National School Lunch Program including language to provide market-based incentives to strengthen both the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) and the National School Lunch Program. This proposal would increase participation in the animal ID program... Because AMS (Agricultural Marketing Service) is a major purchaser of meat products through the School Lunch Program, this proposal would generate significant market-based incentives to strengthen the department's voluntary animal ID system and support livestock producers and other premises that signup for USDA's system . . . The public has already made a massive investment in USDA's NAIS system -- $128 million since fiscal year 2004. Why not use the system that the public has paid for to support producers who voluntarily enroll in NAIS and to strengthen the animal traceability capability to provide better assurances for the National Scho ol Lunch Program?" The bill provides a total NAIS funding level of $14.5 million. That's $4.8 million above 2008 levels. But it will only succeed in driving up the cost of the school lunch program, centralizing the sources of food for this program, and harming smaller, local farms. DownsizsDC.org has signed a coalition letter asking Congress to remove this provision from the appropriations bill. You can help by sending a similar message to Congress. Our standard message for this campaign asks Congress to end the NAIS program. PLEASE USE YOUR PERSONAL COMMENTS to request that the school lunch NAIS provision also be removed from the current agriculture appropriations bill, which does not yet have a bill number assigned, but is in now moved to mark-up by the full Agriculture Committee. You can send your message here. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Bush may soon be the sole president to have a memorial named after him that you can contribute to from the bathroom. From the Department of Damned-With-Faint-Praise, a group going by the regal-sounding name of the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco is planning to ask voters here to change the name of a prize-winning water-treatment plant on the shoreline to the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. The plan - hatched, naturally, in a bar - would place a vote on the November ballot to provide "an appropriate honor for a truly unique president." Supporters say that they have plenty of signatures to qualify the initiative and that the renaming would fit in a long and proud American tradition of poking political figures in the eye. "Most politicians tend to be narcissistic and egomaniacs," said Brian McConnell, an organizer who regularly suits up as Uncle Sam to solicit signatures. "So it is important for satirists to help define their history rather than letting them define their own history." Today in Americas Many hurdles for 2 democrats on path to unity North Korea and U.S. break nuclear impasse Laptop searches at U.S. airports draw fire at Senate hearing Not surprisingly, those Republicans in a city that voted 83 percent Democratic in 2004 are not thrilled with the idea. Howard Epstein, chairman of the ever-outnumbered San Francisco Republican Party, called the initiative "an abuse of process." "You got a bunch of guys drunk who came up with an idea," Epstein said, "and want to put on the ballot as a big joke without regard to the city's governance or cost." The renaming would take effect on Jan. 20, when a new president is sworn in. And regardless of the measure's outcome, supporters plan to commemorate the inaugural with a "synchronized flush" of hundreds of thousands of toilets that would send a flood of water toward the plant, now named the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant. "It's a way of doing something physical that's mentally freeing," said Stacey Reineccius, 45, a supporter of the plan. "It's a weird thing, but it's true." -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Even more controversially, he implied that the U.S. government either allowed 9/11 to happen, or played some role in the destruction wrought that day. The steel floor trusses for the WTC were made here in Alton at Laclede Steel, and besides their tensile strength, had been dipped in a fire retardant coating. He also stated that after 9-11 the Feds came into Laclede and confiscated all their paperwork regarding that contract. Anyway, at least I can (hopefully) add some extremely important information re: diet choices and creating a better world, not to mention a healthier body. Most importantly, we MUST separate myth from fact here, and that includes the criminally inexcusable mistreatment of commercial (or "feed lot" animals) vs the importance of animals to our environment, local economies, our health, and to small family farmers - as well as what it REALLY takes to maintain optimal health vs what we have been led to believe by the "information controllers" who run rampant through our educational institutions, government agencies, various "charitable" organizations and more. FIRST, in 1939 Weston A. Price proved CONCLUSIVELY that animal foods and animals fats are an ESSENTIAL component to anyone concerned with maintaining health. Although he discovered levels of health among the healthy groups he studied according to amounts of animal foods contained in their diets - he also showed that those relying on vegetarian-type diets could maintain vibrant health by consuming diets composed primarily of properly grown and prepared plant food - so long as they also included some form of animal protein and fat. This biological reality is verified through other research both present and past, and it is actually still taught in high school physiology and biochemistry courses (albeit it is true that human nutrition courses presented in colleges across this great land oddly avoid this reality). For this and MUCH more on health, nutrition and farming, please carefully read through my slide presentation:http://westonaprice-elgin.org/files/dietwars.pdf and follow up with some of the books mentioned, starting with Weston Price's classic 1939 Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. The slide presentation also introduces the idea that plant-based farming is what is ruining the soil and local economies, while it encourages the use of petrochemicals, including nitrogen that must be used even for organic operations. Plant-based farming, especially grains (and now soy) also destroys fertile land which is how wars got started in the first place. Read Chapter 11 of my book Two Faces of Money. Please also read this page called Myths and Facts about Vegetarianism: http://thehealthadvantage.com/vegetarians.html Make sure to read carefully this segment on farm production as it relates to conservation of energy, reduced reliance on petrochemicals, mistreatment of animals (sanctioned by the exclusion clause of the Animal Welfare Law), and the world food supply. e, many people commit to vegetarian style diets not so much on health principles as the notion that vegetarianism will help conserve energy resources, reduce the need for chemicals, end cruelty to animals, and increase world food supplies. Internationally respected organic farming expert Mark Purdy helps dispell some of these myths in an article accessible at http://www.westonaprice.org/farming/wasteland.html Here is an excerpt, from internationally respected organic farming expert Mark Purdy: "Whilst [these things] are true in consideration of the intensive, grain fed livestock units, the traditional mixed farming unit raises livestock for meat and milk off extensively managed, low input grassland systems; and each acre of well-managed grassland can produce four harvests a season of high protein forage utilising its all-inclusive clover plants as a green manure for fixing free atmospheric nitrogen into the soil. Whereas, an arable cropping system will only yield one or two crops per season, and will remain largely reliant on the inputs of artificial fertiliser for its nitrogen source; one ton of which requires ten tons of crude oil in manufacturing process. [This is important because 40% of all grain is fed to commercial livestock. . . Furthermore] Well managed grassland is rarely sprayed with pesticide/fungicide/herbicide, not even on the most chemically oriented of farms. Yet virtually all vegetable and arable systems receive an average of ten chemical sprayings annually; through from the initial seed stage to the final storage of the produce. Vegetables are so heavily sprayed that the more perceptive elements of the medical establishment have actually linked the victims of a mystery, novel neurological syndrome . . . to the fact that they are all vegetarians in common. One team led by Dr. David Ratner . . . blood tested several isolated cases of those suffering from this syndrome, and found that various organo-phosphate pesticide residues intensively present in their vegetarian diet were responsible. Once the victims were convinced that they should return to a diet including meat and milk products, their symptoms and abnormal blood enzyme levels normalised rapidly.. . ." Mark Purdy has also done extensive research into the possible causes of Mad Cow disease, and has linked it to the use of chemicals to which commercial livestock are subjected, together with an excess of certain minerals contained in "scientific" feeds and the use of organophosphates and other chemicals on livestock. He points to his own organic, pasture-fed herd in England as evidence that healthy, humanely treated animals do not succumb to Mad Cow. (However, tainted meat may not be the only source of the human form of Mad Cow, as there have been little-publicized reports of long time vegetarians contracting the human form of Mad Cow.) Animal products are the way to keep the small, non-subsidized, environmentally responsible family farmer in business. One of the questions is: how much do the legislators themselves know? If they are aware of any of this, they should be crying from the rooftops. Beverley http://uweb.txstate.edu/~lf14/conspire/rex84.html FEMA And REX 84 In April 1984, President Reagan signed Presidential Directorate Number 54 that allowed FEMA to engage in a secret national "readiness exercise" under the code name of REX 84. The exercise was to test FEMA's readiness to assume military authority in the event of a "State of Domestic National Emergency" concurrent with the launching of a direct United States military operation in Central America. The plan called for the deputation of U.S. military and National Guard units so that they could legally be used for domestic law enforcement. These units would be assigned to conduct sweeps and take into custody an estimated 400,000 undocumented Central American immigrants in the United States. The immigrants would be interned at 10 detention centers to be set up at military bases throughout the country. REX 84 was so highly guarded that special metal security doors were placed on the fifth floor of the FEMA building in Washington, D.C. Even long-standing employees of the Civil Defense of the Federal Executive Department possessing the highest possible security clearances were not being allowed through the newly installed metal security doors. Only personnel wearing a special red Christian cross or crucifix lapel pin were allowed into the premises. Lt. Col. North was responsible for drawing up the emergency plan, which U.S. Attorney General William French Smith opposed vehemently. The plan called for the suspension of the Constitution, turning control of the government over to FEMA, appointment of military commanders to run state and local governments and the declaration of Martial Law. The Presidential Executive Orders to support such a plan were already in place. The plan also advocated the rounding up and transfer to "assembly centers or relocation camps" of a least 21 million American Negroes in the event of massive rioting or disorder, not unlike the rounding up of the Jews in Nazi Germany in the 1930s. The second known time that FEMA stood by was in 1990 when Desert Storm was enacted. Prior to President Bush's invasion of Iraq, FEMA began to draft new legislation to increase its already formidable powers. One of the elements incorporated into the plan was to set up operations within any state or locality without the prior permission of local or state authorities. Such prior permission has always been required in the past. Much of the mechanism being set into place was in anticipation of the economic collapse of the Western World. The war with Iraq may have been conceived as a ploy to boost the bankrupt economy, but it only pushed the West into deeper recession. The third scenario for FEMA came with the Los Angeles riots after the Rodney King brutality verdict. Had the rioting spread to other cities, FEMA would have been empowered to step in. As it was, major rioting only occurred in the Los Angeles area, thus preventing a pretext for a FEMA response. On July 5, 1987, the Miami Herald published reports on FEMA's new goals. The goal was to suspend the Constitution in the event of a national crisis, such as nuclear war, violent and widespread internal dissent, or national opposition to a U.S. military invasion abroad. Lt. Col. North was the architect. National Security Directive Number 52 issued in August 1982, pertains to the "Use of National Guard Troops to Quell Disturbances." The crux of the problem is that FEMA has the power to turn the United States into a police state in time of a real crisis or a manufactured crisis. Lt. Col. North virtually established the apparatus for dictatorship. Only the criticism of the Attorney General prevented the plans from being adopted. But intelligence reports indicate that FEMA has a folder with 22 Executive Orders for the President to sign in case of an emergency. It is believed those Executive Orders contain the framework of North's concepts, delayed by criticism but never truly abandoned. Now, FEMA is on stand by once again. Due to the terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon, and the ensuing "war on terror" known as Operation Enduring Freedom, the president can declare martial law under the guise of "national security." The crisis, as the government now see it, is civil unrest. For generations, the government was concerned with nuclear war, but the violent and disruptive demonstrations that surrounded the Vietnam War era prompted President Nixon to change the direction of emergency powers from war time to times of domestic unrest. Diana Raynolds, program director of the Edward R. Murrow Center, summed up the dangers of FEMA today and the public reaction to martial law in a drug crisis: "It was James Madison's worst nightmare that a righteous faction would someday be strong enough to sweep away the Constitutional restraints designed by the framers to prevent the tyranny of centralized power, excessive privilege, an arbitrary governmental authority over the individual. These restraints, the balancing and checking of powers among branches and layers of government, and the civil guarantees, would be the first casualties in a drug-induced national security state with Reagan's Civil Emergency Preparedness unleashed. Nevertheless, there would be those who would welcome NSC (National Security Council) into the drug fray, believing that increasing state police powers to emergency levels is the only way left to fight American's enemy within. In the short run, a national security state would probably be a relief to those whose personal security and quality of life has been diminished by drugs or drug related crime. And, as the general public watches the progression of institutional chaos and social decay, they too may be willing to pay the ultimate price, one drug free America for 200 years of democracy." The first targets in any FEMA emergency would be Hispanics and Blacks. The FEMA orders call for them to be rounded up and detained. Tax protesters, demonstrators against government military intervention outside U.S. borders, and people who maintain weapons in their homes are also targets. Operation Trojan Horse is a program designed to learn the identity of potential opponents to martial law. The program lures potential protesters into public forums, conducted by a "hero" of the people who advocates survival training. The list of names gathered at such meetings and rallies are computerized and then targeted in case of an emergency. The most shining example of America to the world has been its peaceful transition of government from one administration to another. Despite crises of great magnitude, the United States has maintained its freedom and liberty. This nation now stands on the threshold of rule by non-elected people asserting non-Constitutional powers. Even Congress cannot review a Martial Law action until six months after it has been declared. For the first time in American history, the reigns of government would not be transferred from one elected element to another, but the Constitution, itself, can be suspended. The scenarios established to trigger FEMA into action are generally found in the society today: economic collapse, civil unrest, drug problems, terrorist attacks, and protests against American intervention in a foreign country. All these premises exist, it could only be a matter of time in which one of these triggers the entire emergency necessary to bring FEMA into action, and then it may be too late, because under the FEMA plan, there is no contingency by which Constitutional power is restored. There are now over 600 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. Operation Cable Splicer and Garden Plot are the two sub programs which will be implemented once the Rex 84 program is initiated for its proper purpose. Garden Plot is the program to control the population. Cable Splicer is the program for an orderly takeover of the state and local governments by the federal government. FEMA is the executive arm of the coming police state and thus will head up all operations. The Presidential Executive Orders already listed on the Federal Register also are part of the legal framework for this operation. The camps all have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities. Many also have an airport nearby. The majority of the camps can house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive mental health facility and can hold approximately 2 million people. Terry Kings wrote an article on his discoveries of camps located in southern California. Here are some of his findings: The first camp we observed was in Palmdale, California. It is not operating as a prison at the moment but is masquerading as part of a water facility. Now why would there be a facility of this nature out in the middle of nowhere with absolutely no prisoners? The fences that run for miles around this large facility all point inward, and there are large mounds of dirt and dry moat surrounding the central area so the inside area is not visible from the road. There are 3 large loading docks facing the entrance that can be observed from the road. What are these massive docks going to be loading? We observed white vans patrolling the area and one came out and greeted us with a friendly wave and followed us until we had driven safely beyond the area. What would have happened had we decided to enter the open gate or ask questions? This facility is across the street from the Palmdale Water Department. The area around the Water Department has fences pointing outward, to keep people out of this dangerous area so as not to drown. Yet, across the street, the fences all point inward. Why? To keep people in? What people? Who are going to be it? s occupants? There are also signs posted every 50 feet stating: State of California Trespassing Loitering Forbidden By Law Section 555 California Penal Code. The sign at the entrance says: Pearblossom Operations and Maintenance Subcenter Receiving Department, 34534 116th Street East. There is also a guard shack located at the entrance. We didn?t venture into this facility, but did circle around it to see if there was anything else visible from the road. We saw miles of fences with the top points all directed inward. There is a railroad track that runs next to the perimeter of this fenced area. The loading docks are large enough to hold railroad cars. Another site is located in Brand Park in Glendale. There are newly constructed fences (all outfitted with new wiring that point inward). The fences surround a dry reservoir. There are also new buildings situated in the area. We questioned the idea that there were four armed military personnel walking the park. Since when does a public park need armed guards? A third site visited was in the San Fernando Valley, adjacent to the Water District. Again, the area around the actual Water District had fences logically pointing out (to keep people out of the dangerous area). And the rest of the adjacent area which went on for several miles was ringed with fences and barbed wire facing inward. Also interesting was the fact that the addition to the tops of the fences were fairly new as to not even contain any sign of rust on them. Within the grounds was a huge building that the guard said was a training range for policemen. There were newly constructed roads, new gray military looking buildings, and a landing strip. For what? Police cars were constantly patrolling the several mile perimeter of the area. >From the parking lot of the Odyssey Restaurant a better view could be taken of the area that was hidden from site from the highway. There was an area that contained about 100 black boxes that looked like railroad cars. We had heard that loads of railroad cars have been manufactured in Oregon outfitted with shackles. Would these be of that nature? From our position it was hard to determine. In searching the Internet, I have discovered that there are about 600 of these prison sites around the country. They are manned, but yet do not contain prisoners. Why do they need all these non-operating prisons? What are they waiting for? We continuously hear that our current prisons are overcrowded and they are releasing prisoners because of this situation. But what about all these facilities? What are they really for? Why are there armed guards yet no one to protect themselves against? And what is going to be the kick-off point to put these facilities into operation? What would bring about a situation that would call into effect the need for these new prison facilities? A man-made or natural catastrophe? An earthquake, a massive poisoning, a panic of such dimensions to cause nationwide panic? Once a major disaster occurs (whether it is a real event or manufactured event) martial law is hurriedly put in place and we are all in the hands of the government agencies (FEMA) who thus portray themselves as our protectors. Yet what happens when we question those in authority and how they are taking away all of our freedoms? Will we be the ones detained in these camp sites? And who are they going to round up? Those with guns? Those who ask questions? Those that want to know what?s really going on? Does that include any of us? The seekers of truth? When first coming across this information I was in a state of total denial. How could this be? I believed our country was free, and always felt a sense of comfort in knowing that as long as we didn?t hurt others in observing our freedom we were left to ourselves. Once we challenge that freedom we find out how free we really are. How many are willing to take up that challenge? Very few indeed, otherwise we wouldn?t find ourselves in the situation that we are in at the present time. We wouldn?t have let things progress and get out of the hands of the public and into the hands of those that seek to keep us under their control no matter what it takes, and that includes the use of force and detainment for those that ask the wrong questions. Will asking questions be outlawed next? Several instances have recently been reported where those that were asking questions that came too near the untold truth were removed from the press conferences and from the public?s ear. Also, those that wanted to speak to the press were detained and either imprisoned, locked in a psychiatric hospital, murdered (through make-believe suicides) or discredited. Why are we all in denial over these possibilities? Didn?t we hear about prison camps in Germany, and even in the United States during World War II? Japanese individuals were rounded up and placed in determent camps during the duration of the War. Where was their freedom? You don?t think it could happen to you? Obviously those rounded up and killed didn?t think it could happen to them either. How could decent people have witnessed such atrocities and still said nothing? Are we going to do the same here as they cart off one by one those individuals who are taking a stand for the rights of the citizens as they expose the truth happening behind the scenes? Are we all going to sit there and wonder what happened to this country of ours? Where did we go wrong? How could we let it happen? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... After we hear that Bush and Cheney are authorizing murder and mayhem and subverting mandated checks and balances to do so, she asks, "Can you give me in a nutshell why it's so dangerous. Is it because it could prompt a war with Iran if they were to find these special ops people?" No mention of the question of morality, of whether it might in some sense be wrong to go about ordering kidnapping and murder. No mention of the irony of Bush and Cheney ordering black ops while they claim to oppose terror, or doing everything in secret as they demand ever more transparency into *our* personal lives. No mention of the extended history of human misery and blowback from over 100 years of U.S. interventionism, including the overthrow of a previous democratically elected government in Iran. I don't think we need Hindenberg-style hysterics. If she had merely asked a couple important questions, it would have been enough. Presidential Directive: ?Biometrics for Identification and Screening to Enhance National?Security? Posted by thenai1 on June 11, 2008 ? The latest Big Brother police state measure emanating from the Bush administration, with virtually no press coverage, is NSPD 59 (HSPD 24) entitled Biometrics for Identification and Screening to Enhance National Security [Complete text of NSPD 59 (HSPD 24) in Annex below] ? by Michel Chossudovsky Global Research, June 11, 2008 ? NSPD is directed against US citizens. ? It is adopted without public or Congression debate. Its relevant procedures have far-reaching implications. ? NSPD 59 goes far beyond the issue of biometric identification, it recommends the collection and storage of ?associated biographic? information, meaning information on the private lives of US citizens, in minute detail, all of which will be ?accomplished within the law?: ?The contextual data that accompanies biometric data includes information on date and place of birth, citizenship, current address and address history, current employment and employment history, current phone numbers and phone number history, use of government services and tax filings. Other contextual data may include bank account and credit card histories, plus criminal database records on a local, state and federal level. The database also could include legal judgments or other public records documenting involvement in legal disputes, child custody records and marriage or divorce records.?(See Jerome Corsi, June 200 The directive uses 9/11 as a all encompassing justification to wage its witch hunt against dissenting citizens, establishing at the same time an atmosphere of fear and intimidation across the land. ? It also calls for the integration of various data banks as well as inter-agency cooperation in the sharing of information, with a view to eventually centralizing the information on American citizens. In a carefully worded text, NSPD 59 ?establishes a framework? to enable the Federal government and its various police and intelligence agencies to: ?use mutually compatible methods and procedures in the collection, storage, use, analysis, and sharing of biometric and associated biographic and contextual information of individuals in a lawful and appropriate manner, while respecting their information privacy and other legal rights under United States law.? The Directive recommends: ?actions and associated timelines for enhancing the existing terrorist-oriented identification and screening processes by expanding the use of biometrics?. ? Other Categories of Individuals ? The stated intent of NSPD 59 is to protect America from terrorists, but in fact the terms of reference include any person who is deemed to pose a threat to the Homeland. The government requires the ability: ?to positively identify those individuals who may do harm to Americans and the Nation? Since September 11, 2001, agencies have made considerable progress in securing the Nation through the integration, maintenance, and sharing of information used to identify persons who may pose a threat to national security. The Directive is not limited to KSTs, which in Homeland Security jargon stands for ?Known and Suspected Terrorists?: ?The executive branch has developed an integrated screening capability to protect the Nation against ?known and suspected terrorists? (KSTs). The executive branch shall build upon this success, in accordance with this directive, by enhancing its capability to collect, store, use, analyze, and share biometrics to identify and screen KSTs and other persons who may pose a threat to national security. The executive branch recognizes the need for a layered approach to identification and screening of individuals, as no single mechanism is sufficient. For example, while existing name-based screening procedures are beneficial, application of biometric technologies, where appropriate, improve the executive branch?s ability to identify and screen for persons who may pose a national security threat. To be most effective, national security identification and screening systems will require timely access to the most accurate and most complete biometric, biographic, and related data that are, or can be, made available throughout the executive branch.? NSPD 59 calls for extending the definition of terrorists to include other categories of individuals ?who may pose a threat to national security?. ? In this regard, it is worth noting that in the 2005 TOPOFF (Top officials) anti-terror drills, two other categories of individuals were identified as potential threats: ?Radical groups? and ?disgruntled employees?, suggesting than any form of dissent directed against Big Brother will be categorized as a threat to America. ?
