I'm not posting this to advocate a position, but to put information  
forward. I think we do pretty well on this list at focusing on facts  
and analysis and not getting into flame wars, even though a wide  
range of viewpoints is represented.

The issue of immigration pushes a lot of hot buttons. Coverage in  
commercial media is mostly superficial and acrimonious, serving  
interests of media owners and those with whom they wish to gain favor.

I don't think we can have serious discussion of immigration without  
looking at causes.

And I don't see any position on the issue that attempts a sustainable  
solution.

Intuition says things are shifting in our social structures and we  
are only seeing the initial tremors. We had better find ways to get  
along because we will need a lot more cooperation and solidarity with  
all life on the planet to make it through.
