Kat's link has a lower hysteria level than some of the sources.
The Brasscheck videos didn't implicate any products sold in the US
other than White Rabbit candy and Koala cookies - except for the Mike
Mozart video calling for calling for a total ban on all products in
the US that have any milk ingredients at all.
Seems to me, the idea of getting to know the people who grow,
prepare, and deliver our food is something whose time has come.
Community supported agriculture is here for a reason. It's healthier
than the thousand-mile salad and a lot more sustainable. And that's
only one part of the change we need.
Looking backward:
I don't trust the FDA. Eviscerated by W and others (Rumsfeld etc.).
Regulatory agency capture by the regulated industry. Fox in the
henhouse.
I don't trust corporations and their execs. People just aren't very
good at regulating themselves when they are personally detached from
the consequences of their actions.
Seems to me, deregulation was just another part of the free-market,
trickle-down scam put over on the US by right wing carpetbaggers and
robber barons going back to Reagan and well before.
One answer to Reagan's sneer of "I'm from the government and I'm here
to help", is "I'm a corporate CEO and you can trust me not to poison
you or the rest of the planet."
