 Raymond Lotta on the global economic meltdown. "This is a
financial crisis of historic proportions. And like many other events in
the world, this crisis points to the fundamental irrationality and
cruelty of the system. It also shows the vulnerability of imperialism
to sharp turns that could open up new possibilities for revolutionary

Lotta is a Maoist political economist who gives a unique perspective on
the world economy. His most recent series of articles, "Shifts and
Faultlines in the World Economy and Great Power Rivalry, What Is
Happening and What It Might Mean," is available at revcom.us.
  
Wendy
Kout, co-writer, and Wendie Malick, actress, will talk about the play,
"Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Helen Gahagan Douglas." Based on Helen
Gahagan Douglas' life, the play follows the life of this liberal
California congresswoman whose career was ended by Richard Nixon's
anti-communist / anti-Semitic smear campaign in a 1950 Senate race.
These tactics earned Nixon the name "Tricky Dick." The play will be
presented in a stage reading, October 2, at The Landmark in West LA.
Robert Redford and John Cusack are Honorary Hosts for the evening, a
benefit for The Nation magazine.
