<p>With the growing concern over the recently discovered
Swine Influenza, I wanted to take a moment to answer questions or
concerns you may have about the illness and to provide some resources you
can take to protect yourself and your family.</p>
<p>To date, no cases
of human infection have been confirmed in Illinois, but with more
than 60 confirmed cases in the U.S., we can take these small steps to
guard our loved ones:</p>
<ul>
<li>Cover your nose and mouth
with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and then throw the tissue in the
trash after you use it.</li>
<li>Wash your hands often with soap
and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.</li>
<li>Avoid
touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs can spread easily this
way.</li>
<li>Try to avoid close contact with sick people.</li>
<li>If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home
from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting
them.</li>
<li>Be sure to contact your healthcare provider if
you are worried about your symptoms; your health care provider will best
determine whether influenza testing or treatment is
needed.</li>
</ul>
<p>The Center for Disease Control is working with state and local
public health agencies to investigate the situation and guard against
broader ill effects.
