That is unfortunately true. Any personal complaints with mIRC aside, has
anyone contacted mIRCs author and invited him to join in on developing this
standard?
It seems that, in my experience, mIRC, BitchX and Xchat constitute well over
90% of all the IRC clients, and mIRC is probably 90% of that 90%, so we
would do well to have this ubiquitous client represented.
Also, although I know all of our clients have had some vulnerabilities at
some point or another, but mIRC seems to be own the lion's share of
exploits, (giving it the benefit of the doubt I'd venture to guess that it's
because it's the most commonly used client and has nothing to do with the
quality of the code), but it would be an unfortunate thing for mIRC to
standardize on something insecure or not well thought out when it and the
protocol could mutually benefit.
