ok, going to reply to all the file permission emails at once

File permissions could potentially be usefull, but in the end I agree that the 
security issues and difficulty of implimentation definitely outweighs the 
possible benefits.

An executable bit might be the most usefull feature but it could lead to major 
rsecurity issues (someone has ./ in their path and gets sent a file named ls 
for example)

Date/Timestamps I think can be really usefull for version controll, but I 
think most of the time if version controll is that important someone will be 
using cvs instead anyway.

although the ISO standard might be a little harder to parse, I think we should 
still consider it for the benefit of being compliant.
