While its fairly obvious to see right now the only real benifit of MultiSend is
warez, I think we also have to try to keep a open outlook.
and I don't see how not supporting a feature such as this is going to reduce the
no of warez traders, or make IRC less attractive to traders. They are already
using what we consider a "outdated" protocol to do what they do.
IMHO, I think blocking a potential feature because of political reasons (which
in all honest this comes down to persons belief. I share the same belief as you
on this issue in that I dont want traders on my network either, so please don't
take this as a attack against you.) is wrong. As you meantion, you will
implement a decode on Unreal to stop these types of files, and I think thats a
better option. IE, give the User/Chan Admin/Ircop a choice, rather that impose
our own beliefs upon them.
Finally, we can not ignore the fact that there are a lot of networks devoted to
this type of activity, and a *LOT* of users that use these networks. There are
some networks devoted to TV episodes (which border on the legality of copyright
etc) where this feature would probably see widespread adoption.
Why not argue the technical merit of the implementation, rather than the
political ramifications of it. Otherwise I fear this group will end up split
based on personal beliefs rather than united on techical superiority.
Just my Humble Opinion. Flames to /dev/null :)
