A bit off topic, but the concept applies... some people are very against
such features, even as an option! There has been a heated debate in
Klient's forums for a couple of years now regarding smileys, but you'll find
the same attitude toward many topics. Some people are all for something,
some people don't want it but are ok if its there with an option to shut it
off, and others do not want it at all - not even as an option. They think
it is fundamentally against what IRC is about.
I'm not saying I agree with their opinion; perhaps they would be better off
using a telnet session to chat on IRC with. But, those types of opinions do
abound and minimally have to be dealt with gently (i.e. "put some velvet on
the harpoon") otherwise there will be large communities of people that whose
negative opinions on you and your client will serve to hamper its growth.
