[dcc2] Question about the necessity of multi file sends

You can rest assured that a lot of mIRC DCC2 addons will be made. If enough
clients support something, the big clients probably will too. I agree,
without them, DCC2 wouldn't be very successful as far as percentages of IRC
users are concerned.

I'm not an mIRC user, so believe me, I don't think that way.

Well, I used mIRC as only one example. When I say mIRC I'm really meaning
any of the "big" clients (mIRC, BitchX, X-chat, etc.) I'm sure your users
love Hydrairc, and that's great, but you can't deny the fact that you don't
have nearly as many users as mIRC. I could be wrong, but I thought the RFC
process was setup not only to make standards, but also to have community
participation (Request For Comments). If a group of people that represents
maybe 10% of IRC users imposes their will on the other 90%, I don't think
that is what the RFC process is for. Granted, one could argue that if
mIRC/Bitch-X/X-Chat wanted to have their voices heard, they could have
joined (I assume they are aware of DCC2's existence?). But, all I'm saying
is, without the big client's support, you will have problems. For example,
if I remember from when I played around with HydraIRC, you have RGB color
support, right? And Klient, and I believe Bersirc and vIRC use the same
system. Now, go into any large room and start using RGB colors. I can almost
guarantee you that you'll be asked to stop and/or be banned. Not because
people there don't like colors, but because the people there run a client
that doesn't support RGB and so they see the codes, not the colors. They
find it annoying, therefore they want it to stop.
Me personally, I hate the fact that everyone believes that if mIRC is
against something, it won't happen. I don't use mIRC, why do I want the mIRC
people to decide what I can and can't use? They don't care about me. I
completely agree that too many people think mIRC is IRC. However, I think
this is not a belief that will change overnight. People aren't going to wake
up tomorrow and suddenly realize that mIRC is but one of many clients.
People seem to have the idea that if the big clients don't support it, no
one should. And I think because of this, if no big clients come on board,
DCC2 will have a tough time. I know I wouldn't use it, not because I don't
want to, but because I can't. I personally use Klient, but the channels I go
to are primarily mIRC, X-Chat, and irssi. So if Klient adds support (which
based on Tom's membership here, I assume he plans to), DCC2 is useless to me
because maybe 3 other people in the channels I frequent use Klient. So I'm
going to wind up using DCC 99% of the time anyway. So rather than try DCC2
and always have it fail, I'll be more inclined to just always initiate a DCC
send. And I think, once everyone gets similar results when they try to send
to an mIRC user, they'll do the same. I wish it weren't that way, but in my
experience it is.
