Well, what exactly should be implemented? The draft? Or the draft after the
discussions? Meaning, we agreed on a bunch of new stuff, like shortening
token names, possible support for compression of file sends, etc. None of
that stuff is mentioned in the draft however. So if you implement from the
draft, then you will be incompatible when these changes are added, and if
you don't implement from the draft... well, then we're already coming up
with "implementation specific" ideas even before the protocol has been
standardized ;-)
I personally think the best thing to do would be to try and get this back in
action. If Dan is too busy to deal with it now, maybe there could be a
better way of writing the draft. Rather than having one person in charge of
the drafting, it could be a password protected Wiki type thing, where we all
have access to change it, once we agree to changes. I think we can assume
that no one here would go and add their own ideas without discussion
(otherwise, why bother joining at all?), so that seems like a safe route to
go.
Perhaps we can also try to get more clients/irc related people involved. The
more people involved, the better ideas we'll get going around. I wonder if
the reason none of the "major" clients (mIRC, BitchX, irssi, epic) joined
isn't so much that they don't care, but more so that they've never even
heard of DCC2...
