dont have such a wide choice in shoe laces, but we've kind of standardised on the 3m fabric tape-easy to handle, tear and stick-for added security, we use tinct.benzoin...we also use tube holders, but tape is king!

Honestly, I've had the best success with a standard Mark One, Mod Zero
shoelace.
They are available at your local Target, Wal-Mart, CVS Pharmacy, and Payless
shoe stores. Packaged in pairs, disposable, fluid/blood proof, and just
about medic-proof.
Girth hitch the tube, then pass the ends opposite directions around the
head, and secure around the tube again with a standard square knot.
