Endotracheal Tube Holders

Tape, shoelaces....it really is good to have options and to be able to improvise, but are these things really as secure and as easy to apply as a commercial tube holder? Can they be applied as quickly?

Except for in the ICU, I've never used anything other than Thomas Tube holders. All my EMS employers have always stocked them, so I never used anything else in the field.

The shoelace method sounds cool. I'd like to practice it, but I just cant visualize it.

Honestly, I've had the best success with a standard Mark One, Mod Zero
shoelace.

They are available at your local Target, Wal-Mart, CVS Pharmacy, and Payless
shoe stores. Packaged in pairs, disposable, fluid/blood proof, and just
about medic-proof.

Girth hitch the tube, then pass the ends opposite directions around the
head, and secure around the tube again with a standard square knot.
