Hello Jonathon, it is always good to hear people wanting to get into this business. I can not speak for everyone or every where. In "general" most flight programs require 3-5 years as a ground medic before entrance into the civilian arena as a flight paramedic. Some may allow crossover from military to civilian flight medic, but I would guess many do not. I do not have military medic back ground, and do not know the difference in background and training, but have always been told there are a few differences. I am from the Midwest and think? most would want that extensive ground experience first. I know my program does. Maybe someone else can help you more than I with your particular situation. I wish you all the luck. Eric

Hey everyone! I am trying to get any information on Flight Medic Jobs
around the country. Ways to apply, job listings, and just being able to get my
foot in the door someplace and getting to know people. I am currently a Rescue
Swimmer for the Coast Guard and I am working on my Paramedic. I have about 1.5
yrs. left to complete the program. I have one more tour in the Coast Guard
somewhere else, preferably the west coast, but during that tour, I will be
operating as a Flight Medic instead of just an EMT-B. We see a lot of
interesting things from rescues. Some traumatic, some medical emergencies and
your typical boater who let mother nature get the upper hand and just needs a
lift back to shore. With the experience that I will have before I get out of the
USCG, I am hoping to pick up a job with some company, as a Flight Medic. If
anybody knows web sites, particular people that have had past military
experience and then lateraled over, or just any kind of information reg
arding
Flight Medic Jobs, it would be very appreciable. I hope to hear from someone
soon! Talk to you all later!!
