Perhaps there has been a significant quality improvement with the PIC
50. We only got ours in early June, but have been completely satisfied
with their performance, compactness, and ease of use. My only complaints
are: it took about a month after purchase for the company to send us the
AC power cords (finally got them!); the alarms aren't loud enough to be
heard easily when the aircraft is running; and the auto BP can't be set
for anything less frequent than q 30 min. On a long flight, with a
stable patient, that's too frequently but Welch Allyn said this was just
a software issue and could be changed.

Just wondering for those of you that hate the PIC 50, did you get it
before or after Welch Allyn purchased MRL. We have had ours for about 18
months and it seems to work well for us.

I agree with Melissa, we have the PIC 50s at Life LInk, and I can not
agree better with her, junk, junk, junk, not only what she says but it
takes up to 8-10 to get a pressure and the SaO2 probes work when it
wants to all so, We usta use the Pro Pack by Welch and I love it to
death but you can not defib with it, the only down fall, it is small and
reliable, that is my thought

We too have used the iStat for 10 years. It is a great, reliable
machine that can give you invaluable info (not just gases but
electrolytes, hematocrit/hgb, ACT's (I know you dont need these in the
field generally) Troponins, ) without the need for a large lab and
with a dot of blood. Great for neonates to the largest patients.

Loved the EC-130 when we used it. Much roomier than what we fly now.
As a neonatal team it actually allowed excellent access and good line of
sight to the patient for the entire mission.
