airway skills lab

Scott,
In my experience live animal labs are the by far the best training tool
for surgical airway skills much better than cadavers. We have used a
variety of training mannequins and while they are good for basic
instruction and identifying land marks they lack realism while
performing the surgical procedure.
Pig tracheas have worked well for us in the absence of animal labs.
I don't have any noteworthy experience with any intubation mannequins
other than the standard ones we've used in ACLS for the last 20 yrs. Cat
labs work very well for neonatal/infant intubation training.
Hope this is of some help. Would be happy to hear of your experiences
and any information you gain from this post.

Thanks,
Mitch Hathaway, Flight Nurse/EMT
