I've been wondering just how easy it would be to reproduce copies of these
things if they are missing. The same thing is true for disks actually. It
should be possible to manufacture new floppy disks (3.5, 5.25, 8) for
restoration purposes. If the original hardware is considered essential to
playback, then the only thing not working is the medium. Original hardware
can be repaired through restoration (but will always become harder and
harder to get), but the media itself should be easily replicable if the
original is properly archived.
