Don't personally burnt disks have a really low life (especially if not
stored correctly) due to the dye they use or whatever? (Probably
wikipedia has an answer :) ). I am sure there needs to be some kind of
reflective layer to read anything though, yeah. People who scratch the
*top* of disks accidentally can render them unusable!<br>

<div>I'll try and do a little more detailed analysis of the discs, as
I noticed some of my burnt CD-R's are fading as well. If you can see
through the disc, then it's completely unreadable, right?<br>

Someone has contacted us recently about the lifetime of floppy disks.
Can I put this up almost vertabim in a reference page on the IGDA wiki?
I should start putting up some of the information people keep posting
about media and how it fails over time (noting there is a section in
our white paper on it too, which I'll also reuse).<br>
