Hello: Welcome to the August issue of the CWLU Herstory E-Zine.
Please send us news tips about upcoming events you know about. Also,
don't be shy. Send us news about yourself and what you are doing.
Feminist networking is part of what we are about. Forward our E-Zine
to colleagues and friends who may want to subscribe.
Remember: Buy online from Women and Children First Books using the
link on our homepage or the Book section of the Marketplace. Look for
the Women and Children First logo. It's a great way to buy gifts and
we'll will earn a small but much needed commission.
Note: Technical difficulties at our webhost delayed the August
E-Zine. Our apologies.

FIRST REPRINTS OF GRAPHICS COLLECTIVE POSTERS IN 30 YEARS
The first reprints of Chicago Women's Graphics Collective posters
started coming out of the CWLU Herstory Project printer in July.
We're still in the testing stage, but we have set up a credit card
ordering system and are planning our online store to sell posters
over the Internet. Hopefully we'll have it all up and running by the
next E-zine issue. Keep your fingers crossed.
We are also investigating how we may use Graphics Collective images
on coffee mugs and refrigerator magnets. We see posters and mugs etc.
as a major funding source for the project.
The Chicago Women's Graphics Collective began as a workgroup of the
Chicago Women's Liberation Union and distributed tens of thousands of
feminist posters worldwide until it disbanded in the early 1980's

SHOULD WE RE-ISSUE FEMINIST BUTTONS?
We recently received an inquiry from a Canadian women's group about
ordering classic feminist buttons. They saw our small button
collection online and thought we might be able to sell them some for
a fundraiser they were having.
We don't have buttons in quantity, but the Canadian inquiry got us
thinking. Maybe we could reissue some classic feminist buttons since
we have digital scans of them. We know an local artist/activist who
owns an industrial strength button-maker and is looking for work
making buttons.
Tell us what you think. Would you be interested in seeing some
vintage buttons reissued? Given our limited time and resources, this
project would not happen right away, but e-mail
infogal at cwluherstory.org with your feedback.

DO YOU KNOW A LESBIAN OVER AGE 70 WHOSE LIFE STORY SHOULD BE TOLD?
Each lesbian who was born in the early decades of the 20th century
has lived through a period of time when non-heterosexual life style
were mostly unknown to society. Their life experiences need to be
recorded so that the struggles they experienced and the courage they
exemplified will not be lost to coming generations or to lesbians who
are living lives in the first decades of this century.
Old Lesbians Organizing for Change has organized an oral history
project to document that history. If you want to learn more about
their work, contact
Old Lesbians Organizing for Change - OLOC, Inc.
P.O. Box 980422
Houston, TX 77008
Email them at info at oloc.org.

LOOKING FOR A SERVICE?
Mary Ellen Croteau is offering exhibition space for artists in her
"Art On Armitage", window space dedicated to art exhibitions and
installations and other creations on busy Armitage Avenue just west
of Pulaski in Chicago.
Mary Ellen envisions lively, interesting and challenging work which
will be seen by passers-by in a raised window box, 15 feet wide, 10
feet high and 27 feet deep. Exhibits will be up for 2 to 3 weeks.
There are no fees, but the artist must provide transport of the work
and install if they live in the metropolitan area.
She will consider all proposals, including performance. An artist's
statement regarding the work may be included in the window. Keep in
mind that this is a family neighborhood, so she will not be able to
exhibit overtly sexual or violent images. It is also majority
Spanish-speaking, so text based work which relies on English might
not get the point across.
Proposals should include slides or images of the proposed work, or a
written description of your proposed work with slides/images of other
similar work.
Proposals should be sent to:
Mary Ellen Croteau
Art On Armitage
4125 W. Armitage Ave.
Chicago, IL 60639-3615
Email maryellencroteau at netscape.net or call (773) 235-8583
