workstation is now available on the 2nd floor of Estelle Carol's
building in Oak Park. Her studio/office is on the third floor. There
is a Mac 7600, a new monitor, a scanner and a CD burner. There are
plans to add a printer. Student volunteers usually earn independent
study credit through UIC or their own school. We need volunteers to

HISTORICAL PHOTOS</font></div>

Kathy Mallin for sending us two CD's worth of wonderful historic
photos. Kathy, a former CWLU health activist, sent us photos from a
1976 Chicago community health fair that featured CWLU
participation, a Midwest reproductive rights march and the 1976
national socialist feminist conference.</font></div>

activist Jo Freeman will delivery the commencement address for the
Political Science Department at Berkeley. Jo Freeman graduated from
Berkeley in 1965 with honors. She was also one of the leaders of the
Free Speech Movement at Berkeley. Her new book "At Berkeley in
the Sixties" is a political autobiography of her experiences
there.</font></div>

PLANNING AUGUST EVENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO

of America and the UIC Center for the Study of Women and Gender will
be sponsoring a 2 day event at UIC entitled "Unfinished Business
for the Women's Movement: Dangers and

28, it will include panel discussions, a women's history bus

AMERICAN FREEDOM SUMMER</font><br>

Summer is an important and exciting project that will work to register
immigrant Latino voters in Arizona and Haitian refugees in Florida.
The project seeks activists who will volunteer from 4 to 6 weeks this
summer to work on voter registration, participate in community-based
education around immigrant rights, and engage in direct action
"Truth Brigades" that expose the problems of our broken
immigrant system.</font></div>

Recruiters are giving priority to people who are fluent in Spanish or
Creole. Please share this information with individuals or groups who
might know of people who would be interested in applying for this
important project and who fit the requirements listed below. The
application deadline is May 15th.</font></div>

<div><font face="Geneva" color="#000000">Participants will receive
training in Jackson, Mississippi June 28 to June 30 from leaders of
the 1964 Freedom Summer project. They will begin work in Arizona or

$150 a week, plus all transportation costs, as well as room and board
at each site.</font></div>
