There's an excellent letter from our own Tom Van Baak in the March  
2007 Physics Today.  He describes the science fair experiment he did  
with his kids on Mt. Rainier to directly test the predictions of  
general relativity.

I'll be judging the regional science fair in a couple of weeks.  Past  
experience suggests that the Van Baaks would be scored rather highly  
- especially for a group project.  (Bearing in mind that the first  
step when judging is to throw out the rubric you're handed.)
