Did he? The AP doesn't include those double quotes:

(I used to live in Laramie and find it amusing that the Boomerang - named after a mule - was the top hit to my query. A pointer to a more official posting of the AP story would be welcome.)

Was Daniel even interviewed in English? Is there an Agence France-Presse story? What was the context for whatever was said? Did a carefully neutral statement hedged with conditionals get trimmed down by a copy editor?

Like Steve says: "Can we make a list of what we know?"
