Here's an interesting article (and the thesis to which it refers) about
possible effects on educational outcomes of India's single very wide
timezone:

A quick reading suggests this is a significant study, but somebody else
will need to evaluate the validity of the author's educational and
economic conclusions.
Just to be clear, I'm not making any arguments here whatsoever about
leap seconds :-)
