Automatic footnotes

The problem is that *HTML* doesn't have a standard way of expressing
footnotes.

If, however, Markdown were to incorporate syntax for expressing IDs on an
element, you should be able to be able to do something reasonable like, say,
linking numbered references to the ID'ed "footnotes".
