I'm new to Markdown, and so I'm not entirely integrated into the
mindset.  Here you go, have a grain of salt.

Just putting "end" to end the proposed sidebar is a little too
mark*up*, isn't it?  98% of those who've been on the Internet for more
than a couple of years are likely to know what the "end" means, but
isn't the point of Markdown that a reader shouldn't *have* to know? 
That it should be completely readable, without aid of machine?

What about making the " of " optional?  Then the writer could take
responsibility for considering his or her audience, while leaving
largely human-readable text either way.
