Firstly, it wasn't necessarily <div> that John was proposing, it was
sidebars.  <div>s were just a way of achieving this, as I understood
it.

Secondly, I agree with you.  I've never seen sidebars in plain text
email, and I can't imagine someone needing to use a sidebar in plain
text email.  It's just not that kind of medium.
