markdown's reference links with the implicit name syntax - improvement suggestion?!?

yuri - informative and splendid - thanks very much for the education - i've been using Markdown.pl and some apache directives to filter *.md files through it. I'll try the python version. Perhaps footnotes will be sufficient for my purposes....
