And not to forget: even if we keep today's situation, people can use
Markdown-extensions to use footnotes, tables, etc. And then people who
don't know these extensions are in the same situation like it was part
of classic markdown. It's only about having one single, universal
syntax-standard for Markdown (including the advanced things like
tables, footnotes, etc.) and not many different standards that are
confusing to (new) users.
