[MCR] Roger's Pass, Feb 6-8

Public Mountain Conditions Report mcr at informalex.org

Hello,

Just finished 8 days of touring at Roger's Pass. Here are a few notes as a continuation of Jeff Honig's previous post.

Feb 6th NRC Gully:

We observed numerous moist snow avalanches to size 1.5 from steep terrain in solar effected areas. I would imagine most of this area is now sporting a breakable crust.

Feb 7th Lookout Notch:

Down flow winds from the Illecilewaet Glacier have hammered the approach to the Glacier. No wind effect observed on the final slopes leading to the Notch. We skied into the Asulkan Valley from the Notch and found moist but skiable snow on the first pitch and unconsolidated snow for the remainder of the run. Numerous moist snow avalanches to size 1.5 observed from the previous day.

Feb 8th The Dome glacier:

No wind effect noted in this area. Good ski quality to valley bottom with a minor sun crust on slopes facing more south at treeline and below. New surface hoar has grown and was easily visible at our high point between the Dome and the Rampart.

Have fun,
