[MCR] Yoho Traverse

[Public Mountain Conditions Report]

Brain Webster and I skied over the Yoho Traverse from Little Yoho to Bow
Lake on January 26-28 with an ascent of McArthur. We found excellent travel
conditions with little or no wind effect. There was some sun effect on the
south aspect of Isolated Col but a strong settled snowpack. The north side
of Isolated col had 30 cm of ski penetration in facets on the top with no
sign of the Dec 29 Surface Hoar at this elevation. The headwall from the
dePoulis up to Collie was well settled with lots of wind pressing. The
icefall off of Collie to the Yoho glacier was easily passed by sticking to
the north ramp with only a couple of obvious crevasses to cross.
Generally, the travelling was fast and the conditions perfect. If it snows
before the wind blows, there is a 3 cm. thick layer of surface hoar and
super large stellars on top of everything right to the ridge tops that will
be interesting as the next layer.
