I guided an ascent of the Kain Route on Mt Louis yesterday, July 22nd, after getting scooped on the Gmoser Route. Great relief to see that the mudslide that came out of the Escargot Corner drainage and shut down the Trans Canada Highway on July 20th had little noticeable affect on the Edith Pass Trail, we approached as per usual. There is an exceptionally large delta of snow, for this time of year, sitting in the east face gully. We had one light ice axe and I did use it to cut a bunch of steps. Another party of two "guides on vacation" got onto the rock earlier on the approach and avoided the snow (There were three parties on the mountain yesterday -us, plus the "guides on vacation", on the Kain, and a husband and wife on the Gmoser). Otherwise the route is bone dry and fine. Still water running on the some of the descent rappels, and water accessible close to Gargoyle Valley on the walk off. The mosquitoes have blossomed.
Happy trails,
