Kicked steps today up the south gully on Esplanade Peak located above
the Snaring Wardens Station east of Jasper.
Followed up the creek on good snow to summit ridge.
the first couple of hours is in the creek bed and bush, but not bad travelling.

Crampons used on ascent and 1/2 of descent. Getting soft on way down
though still not near isothermal, lots of old debris and frozen dense
neve made for good travel,

Though the lower valleys seems dry, the alpine still has a lot of
snow especially on the north sides. Mt Hawk still looked quite snowy,
along with most of the peaks in the Colin Range,.

Seemed easier going up and down the creek. Though the south ridge to
the right of the creek is a fun scramble, there is still a lot of
hidden snow along the lee side of the ridge that is not visible from
below. This would have slowed things down.
Should be good for a while yet, and though the upper sections will
melt out near the summit, the terrain is easy and good walking.

Still winter-like in the alpine.
