[MCR] Rockies: Columbia Icefield

[Public Mountain Conditions Report]

Just back from another lap up Mt Columbia.

About 10 cm of snow from Friday was sitting on a variable strength crust. We triggered a size 1 soft windslab just below the summit, it extended only about 2 m downslope but propagated about 15 m wide. It wasn't big enough to push us over but was a bit disconcerting all the same, and it was a surprise as the face below showed no signs of slab at all.

There was about 2 cm of fresh snow on the icefield when we skied out this morning. Visibility was nil.
