[MCR] Rockies: Columbia Icefield Area

Here are a few observations from the Columbia Icefield area over the long weekend...

Parker Ridge: Still lots of snow and people were skiing there everyday.

Wilcox
Pass trail: Looks clear from the highway but there is still up to 3
feet of snow left on the lower trail (below treeline) that is very soft
and punchy in the afternoon.

Athabasca Glacier: Still
mostly snow covered and looks like good skiing on corn snow in
afternoon. No crevasses showing up until the icefall (see photo from
Wilcox).

Skyladder on Andromeda: Mostly snow covered but there is
a big patch of ice showing mid way up. Looks like you can avoid it
fairly easily (see photo).

Mount Athabasca: It looked mostly snow
covered on Sunday with no new avalanche activity but I heard that there
were a few new avalanches by Monday afternoon (see photo taken on
Sunday). The AA col route also looked in ok shape on Sunday with no
avalanche or major rock debris in it.

No ticks were seen in the area...

Cheers!

Felix
