There is little information on the NE-E ridge on Pyramid Mountain
near Jasper. An old local guide mentioned it as having some better
climbing/scrambling than the standard N ridge.
Today, from a parking lot at the end of Pyramid Lake, I rode/pushed
my bike up the old fire road to a flat meadow at the base of the mountain.
I followed the creek into the cirque leading to the base of the NE
ridge. This ridge easily leads to the upper col. A short cliff band
can be turned using a ramp that leads W to where easy talus and
boulders take you to the summit. I hand railed up a SE spur on the
mountain that led up on better rock.
Descent was made down the standard N ridge as per Alan Kane's
book. This loop is a fairly straightforward traverse on 2nd or 3rd
class terrain.
Not much for views today, strong winds mixed with snow and rain.
