Just back yesterday guiding with Jean Gamilofsky on a Yamnuska trip to Robson. The firn line is the highest I have ever seen it in the region since my first trip there in 1977. The lower Robson Glacier is largely snow free to 2800 meters making for fast easy cramponing to just below the Robson Icefall. We had good traveling on well settled wet snow to the Robson/Resplendent Col. Several of the key snow bridges were very fragile and will likely not last with continued warm weather. Once these bridges fail travel to the col will be difficult. Temperatures from Aug 11 to 15 ranged at 9.0 degrees for the low and 18.0 as the maximum at our camp at 3000m. Old tracks on the Kain route were clearly visible to high on the “Roof” as were the nearly constant size 1 to 1.5 point releases draining the Kain Face which shows a lot more ice than usual. As such, we opted for Mt Resplendent which was in good but icy conditions. There is a large crevasse barring the summit ridge on Resplendent about 20 vertical meters below the summit.

Cheers
