[MCR] Southern Purcell avalanche observations

Guiding in the Southern Purcell mountains east of Kaslo, in the Powder Creek headwaters. On arrival Saturday Feb15th, 55cm of storm snow overlied the variety of weak snow surface crystals formed by the extended drought. Although there was widespreading whumphing felt Saturday, the was little recent avalanche activity.
On Sunday Feb16th, we received 30cm overnight with strong westerly winds. The skies cleared and revealed a widespread Natural avalanche cycle to size three, with numerous crowns 80-cm deep.
